Danny O’Donoghue reveals the very odd reason The Script ‘almost missed’ their performance at Glastonbury
Danny O’Donoghue disclosed an unusual circumstance that nearly caused The Script to miss their performance at Glastonbury.
On Saturday, the soft-rock band left the audience spellbound at the legendary Pyramid Stage. During their performance, they honored their late guitarist, Mark Sheehan, with a touching tribute.
The lead singer from Ireland, who is 44 years old, confessed that he had taken a speedboat trip in Cardiff the previous day, and as a result, ended up with numerous injuries and bruises.
He shared with The Sun that for approximately two hours, it seemed like they were making an effort to cause an accident and prevent us from reaching Glastonbury.
‘My knees are in bits.’
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: “After venturing beyond the sea on more than one occasion, I can tell you, we hit the mark and crashed straight through.

On Saturday, following a heartfelt homage to their late guitarist Mark Sheehan, the band performed on stage at Glastonbury.
In 2001, a rock band took shape in Dublin, Ireland. Currently, its members are Danny, Glen Power, Benjamin Seargent, and Ben Weaver.
In April 2023, the band’s former member, who had been ill for a short time, passed away at the hospital when he was 46 years old. This tragic event left his fellow band members deeply saddened and distraught.
For more than two years since his death, Danny paid tribute to his friend by speaking fondly of him and performing a song dedicated to him on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival, in Somerset.
After the electrifying rendition of “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” I, a fervent fan at 44, found myself seated on the stage’s edge, yearningly expressing my wish that Mark, our musical icon, was here to witness our triumphant journey.
He mentioned: “I deeply miss one individual who should have been present for this moment. Seventeen years ago, he was on stage with us. Tragically, we said goodbye to my dearest friend and co-founder of The Script, Mark Sheehan, about a year and a half ago.
Let me express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support that keeps us moving forward. Your kindness, as reflected in your thoughts and prayers, is truly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
With the crowd erupting in applause, he remarked, “I’ll bet he’s enjoying a drink from above, watching over us. In his honor, I’d like to play a tune – it’s titled ‘If I Could See You Now.’

Many well-known artists from around the globe haven’t performed just yet this weekend. Neil Young is slated to be the main act on Saturday night, while Olivia Rodrigo will wrap up the weekend on Sunday evening.
For the remainder of the event, you can look forward to shows by Raye, The Libertines, Noah Kahan, along with several other talented performers.
Originating from Dublin, Mark teamed up with lead vocalist Danny and drummer Glen Power to establish a highly successful rock band back in 2001.
The unexpected death of the band member was shared on their official Facebook page in April 2023, a fortnight following the announcement of their upcoming concert.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m compelled to share the recent unfortunate news about a remarkable guitarist and family man who resided in the United States with his beloved partner Rina. Tragically, he passed away on April 14, 2023, following a sudden and private health predicament that took us all by surprise.
In simpler terms, the statement from their band announced the passing of Mark Sheehan, who was cherished as a husband, father, sibling, band member, and friend. This unfortunate event took place at the hospital following a short illness.
It continued: ‘The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.’
To start, Mark embarked on his professional journey as a dancer and instructed Hip-Hop classes at the arts center located on Digges Lane in Dublin.

Mark and lead vocalist Danny have been close friends since they were 12 years old and were once part of a band known as Mytown, which was established in 1996.
In the thrilling year of 2001, I found myself immersed in the heart of Dublin, witnessing the birth of a band that would soon capture my soul – The Script. I was there, front and center, as Mark strummed his guitar, Glen Power pounded the drums with an infectious rhythm, and Danny’s voice soared, filling the air with melodies that resonated deeply within me.
Following his passing, Mark left his £9.4million fortune to his family.
They achieved global success by selling over 20 million records, featuring hits such as “The Man Who Can’t be Moved,” “For the First Time,” “We Cry,” and “Hall of Fame.
Previously, Danny revealed that he resorted to alcohol, cigarettes, and other vices following the demise of his bandmate Mark.
Danny shared that he spiraled out of control following Mark’s passing, resorting to alcohol and smoking while grappling with a mental roadblock.
After a boisterous Christmas season filled with excessive drinking back in Ireland during 2023, the singer opted to abstain from alcohol and confront his grief in its raw form, completely sober.
After Mark’s passing, I seemed to lose my way, much like many others do. I found myself indulging in excessive drinking, smoking, and various other vices. Moreover, I experienced a period of mental stagnation.
Later on, he expressed: “After a heavy round of drinking during Christmas in Ireland, I declared, ‘That’s enough.’ I wish to confront my sorrow completely sober, as avoiding it merely pushes it further away.
January proved to be quite transformative for me – I decided to quit alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine, among other enjoyable habits… Initially, I had only planned to abstain during January, but here we are in May, and I must say, I feel fantastic compared to how I was before.
‘I feel like I’m starting to come out from the black cloud a little bit now, hence the new music.’
