Danny Dyer shares update as “addictive” ’80s-set British drama series returns

Danny Dyer gives followers a peek at the latest developments for fans of the steamy, treacherous show “Rivals,” as production for season 2 resumes on set.

Filming has begun for the Disney+ drama series, packed with celebrities, revolving around the fierce competition between independent television stations in the 1980s. The streaming service shared pictures showing Dyer and several other cast members back at work on set.

In the popular series EastEnders, Dyer is recognized as Mick Carter, but off-screen he takes on the character of Freddie Jones, a successful entrepreneur in the electronics industry residing in the made-up nation of Rutshire.

As I scroll through my latest Instagram snaps, there I am, standing beside my in-game spouse, the fabulous Valerie Jones, portrayed by the talented Lisa McGrillis. She’s holding up a clapperboard adorned with the emblem of our upcoming series, Rivals 2.

Here are some additional images captured on set, featuring Nafessa Williams portraying American producer Cameron Cook, Alex Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black, and Aidan Turner as Declan O’Hara. Additionally, a separate image highlights Bella Maclean in her role as Agatha ‘Taggie’ O’Hara, one of Declan’s children.

The post, also tagging Dyer, declares excitedly, “We’re back again!” to indicate that the filming for “Rivals Season 2″ has commenced.

Last October, the show was widely praised by critics at its premiere and has since earned a “Certified Fresh” status on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting an impressive critics’ rating of 95%, based on 38 reviews.

Critics labeled the show “Rivals” as “hard to resist” in their review from Fotogramas, and described it as “extravagantly vulgar, extravagantly dramatic” through the London Evening Standard. Almost everyone seems to concur that this adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s novel delivers a perfect blend of fresh, entertaining, and flamboyant television.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that David Tennant, famously known as The Doctor in “Doctor Who,” will be reprising his role in our series, this time playing Tony aka Lord Baddingham. Despite his absence from behind-the-scenes photos, we can now confirm that the first season’s cliffhanger has led to his return for another season, putting all doubts about his fate to rest.

In the first season, you can stream “Rivals” on Disney+. Production for a second season is currently underway, with its release scheduled to appear on the streaming platform at a future time.

The inaugural printed issue of Digital Spy’s magazine has arrived! You can purchase “British Comedy Legends” from local newsstands or online for a special price of only £3.99.
