Danny Dyer says his family had to ‘come to the front’ to support daughter Dani while her fiancé Jarrod Bowen was ‘away all summer’ as he opens up on ‘juggling’ grandfather duties
As a long-time follower of the Dyer family, I can’t help but be moved by the love and support they show for each other, especially in times of need. Danny Dyer, a true East End legend, has always been a rock for his children, and now he’s stepping up to help his grandkids too!
Danny Dyer shared that he and his family have taken on a more active role in helping his daughter Dani care for her three kids, as her partner Jarrod Bowen was participating in the Euros tournament during the summer.
Previously known EastEnders actor, aged 47, became a grandfather for the first time as his daughter Dani Dyer, at 28 years old, delivered Santiago, who is now three, with ex-partner Sammy Kimmence.
In 2023, the reality TV personality welcomed twins Summer and Star with footballer Jarrod Bowen, and her father, along with his wife Joanne Mas (age 47), has shared that they assist with babysitting in addition to parenting their children Sunnie (17) and Arty (10).
In sharing my insights with The Sunday Times Style Magazine, I expressed that Jarrod is an exceptional father, yet his schedule keeps him quite occupied. This past summer, he was consistently on the move, while Dani was frequently jet-setting between places.
‘It’s difficult to juggle that and the children, so we’ve come to the front as a family, as you do. We’re just trying to bring up decent human beings.’
Danny, who had been partnered with Joanne Mas for several decades before their marriage in 2016, also commented on finding it peculiar to observe his own daughter becoming a parent.
He said: ‘It’s mad seeing your children have kids. My Dani, she’s such an amazing human being. We’ve got a special bond.
‘I got her when I turned eighteen, which meant I was practically just starting out in life myself. Over the years, we’ve grown and matured side by side. She’s been there through my ups and downs, and she’s one of my dearest friends.’
Despite Danny initially not being enthusiastic when his eldest joined the ITV2 dating program, they eventually teamed up as co-presenters.
Additionally, Danny mentioned that since his daughter and her fiancé Jarrod, aged 27, often have work commitments keeping them busy, Danny and Jo find themselves taking care of the babysitting responsibilities.

When Dani became a grandfather for the first time, she shared that her father teared up, confessing that he had never experienced such a feeling before and found himself unexpectedly moved.
On the Made By Mammas podcast, she shared that her father was unexpectedly emotional about becoming a grandfather. In fact, he had cried quite a bit when spending time with Santiago recently.
He said, “I adore babies, but your child is extraordinary. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. I didn’t expect to feel this way.
Since October 2021, Dani has been in a romantic involvement with a notable West Ham player. Not long ago, they announced their engagement.
Danny confessed that when he encountered his future son-in-law, he found himself unsure about what to discuss with him, as he is a dedicated fan of West Ham United.
However, when they encountered each other during the festive occasion of Bonfire Night, a strong feeling arose within both of them that this connection was undeniably true love.
He shared with TalkSport that he felt compelled to help: “I wished I could have removed his shoes, propped his feet on the couch, and given him a relaxing massage. But it’s important not to overstep boundaries!
‘All I wanna see, like any father, is my daughter in love and when they’re not with the right person , they’re not the same. There’s something not right.
1) “She was my ‘Dani’ around him, which shows love. He understands her deeply, and it’s truly wonderful. I might have inadvertently nurtured it a bit more than necessary, but their relationship is genuine, heartfelt love.
