Danny Dyer puffs on a cigarette as he leaves screening of his new film One Last Deal where he was supported by his glamorous daughter Dani

I spotted Danny Dyer leaving a screening of his new movie, ‘One Last Deal’ the other day, and he looked relaxed with a cigarette in hand. It was lovely to see him with his daughter, Dani – she’s absolutely glowing, and clearly a big supporter of his work! They make a great pair.

Actor David Schwimmer, age 48, stars in the new thriller as Jimmy Banks, a struggling football agent hoping to earn a large commission from his client’s final game.

He was promoting the new project at a special screening in London’s Picturehouse Central.

He looked exactly like a classic movie star, casually smoking a cigarette and wearing dark sunglasses at the event.

Danny finished his outfit with a matching black set and a white shirt, and he carried a stylish leather bag.

Dani Dyer, 29, a former contestant on Love Island, looked stunning in a see-through black silk dress at the event.

The screening follows Danny’s recent admission that he’s amazed by his current success. He went from a series of unsuccessful films in the 2000s to winning a BAFTA and receiving worldwide recognition for his popular show, Rivals.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone UK, the famous star discussed regaining his reputation after recently being seen as a joke. He graced the magazine’s cover, making a striking statement alongside three lions.

Since departing from EastEnders in 2023, his career has flourished. He recently won a BAFTA for Best Comedy Performance by a Male for his work in Mr. Bigstuff.

Landing the role of Freddie Jones in the Disney+ series ‘Rivals’ helped relaunch actor David Tennant’s career and gain him international recognition, especially considering he had previously faced financial hardship when his films went directly to home video.

Honestly, it’s just…amazing to hear Danny talk about how weird it is getting all this praise! For years, people just didn’t get him, they kinda made fun of him, thought he was a joke. And now? Everyone’s suddenly a fan. He says he’s still trying to process it all, and I totally get it! It’s like, finally, the world sees how brilliant he is, and it’s just…everything I’ve always known!

After years in the industry, he’d learned to not let criticism bother him. He explained that he wasn’t driven by a desire for awards or recognition, but by his commitment to supporting and caring for his family.

Honestly, it’s been a really unexpected turn of events. For years, critics pretty much dismissed me – some even made fun of me! – so to suddenly be receiving their acknowledgment is a complete surprise. It feels good, to say the least!

After being in this field for so long, I’ve learned not to get too bothered by things. I’m not trying to revolutionize anything with what I do.

I’m not trying to be a famous actor like Marlon Brando. I’m simply focused on supporting my family, and it’s challenging to do that as an actor. I just want to be able to continue working, pay my bills, and provide a comfortable life for them.

That’s really what motivates me and why I do what I do,” he explained. “If people want to criticize my past work along the way, I’m okay with that.

You know, it’s amazing to me how things can turn around. Just thirteen years ago, Danny was really struggling – he told me he was completely broke and desperate, actually relying on appearances at nightclubs to make ends meet after a few projects just didn’t take off. It’s a powerful reminder that even when things seem impossible, a comeback is always possible!

A devoted West Ham supporter had previously ruined a promising acting career, having been mentored by the famous playwright Harold Pinter. This potential was lost after he froze on stage during a Broadway performance, a result of a 24-hour period of heavy crack cocaine use.

His film company, Old Mother Media, failed with around £30,000 in debts, primarily owed to the government. The actor, known for the film Marching Powder, attributed his previous money problems to appearing in a series of low-budget adult films.

Let’s talk about some real flops! One that really stands out is the 2013 film, Run For Your Wife. Honestly, critics absolutely tore it apart, and it quickly gained a reputation as one of the worst British films ever made. The numbers speak for themselves – it only made a measly £747 during its opening weekend. Talk about a box office disaster!

He admitted he was in a really tough spot. He felt he’d made too many poor choices with his movies, and that his chance to succeed had passed, despite having created some good work in the past.

I started going to nightclubs and acting out, trying to get attention. It really takes a toll on you, honestly. It’s hard to know where to turn after that.

He credits landing the part of Mick Carter on EastEnders with saving him, as it completely changed his life for the better.

Danny once shared on the Jonathan Ross Show that when he was offered his role on the soap in 2013, he was so broke he couldn’t even afford to buy the BBC executives a celebratory beer.

He remembered being asked to join the show and take on the role of running the Queen Vic pub. He was broke at the time and barely had enough money for gas to get to the audition, he said.

People believed I was very wealthy, so when I met them at the hotel, I was completely broke. I was worried they’d ask me to buy drinks, as I didn’t have any money on me.

They treated me like royalty, telling me how fantastic I was and urging me to join the show. They said I’d have a major plotline involving a son who was gay.

Danny pretended not to be excited, but inside he was thrilled about the job offer that could save his career.

He explained that he was incredibly excited and felt like celebrating with a cartwheel, but he decided to remain calm and not reveal his enthusiasm too soon.

Honestly, when they asked, I just said I needed time to think – a classic move, right? Then I practically skipped out of there, maybe even did a little celebratory flip or two! I was trying so hard to play it cool, to not seem too eager, but inside I was absolutely dying to know what would happen next. It was a total act!

Danny explained that if he hadn’t gotten the part, he might have had to take on manual labor, like loading garbage trucks. He was struggling to find work and was even doing small gigs at nightclubs.

Things are much better now. Recent filings with Companies House show that his company, Arty Bucco, earned £1.4 million in the last year.

After becoming a popular figure on television and landing profitable advertising deals with companies like Sky and Paddy Power, Danny’s wealth is now estimated to be well over £5 million, not including the value of his home and other possessions.

Overcome with emotion, he fought back tears while accepting his BAFTA award last May. He joked, ‘That’s amazing! Comedy performance… I honestly thought my acting was terrible, but apparently it was funny.’ He then added, clearly moved, ‘Wow, I’m really overwhelmed.’

In an interview with Esquire last year, Danny explained that his role in ‘Rivals’ presented a new side of him to audiences. This was especially noticeable because it followed his performance in ‘Mr. Bigstuff,’ demonstrating his range as an actor, as the characters Lee and Freddie are very different from each other.

I’ve definitely made my share of errors over the years. I often took on work I wasn’t ideally suited for, likely because I was focused on earning money – I needed to cover expenses and provide for my children’s education.

I’m fortunate to have so many opportunities that I can actually choose which ones to decline. I believe my choices about what not to do will ultimately be more defining than what I say yes to, and that’s a really empowering feeling.
