Danny DeVito and Marilun Henner, stars of the classic sitcom Taxi, shared a heartwarming reunion with the show’s creator, James L. Brooks, on the red carpet Thursday.

This TV series, which followed the everyday lives of taxi drivers and dispatchers working the night shift, aired for seven seasons between 1978 and 1983.

Alongside Danny DeVito and Shelley Henner, you had the incredible talents of Tony Danza, Judd Hirsch, Christopher Lloyd, Andy Kaufman, and Jeff Conaway – a group that really made the show something special. They all brought such unique energy and humor to the screen!

Henner portrayed Elaine Nardo, a divorced mom who drove a taxi while hoping to pursue a career in the arts. DeVito played Louie De Palma, the dishonest person who took the taxi calls.

Danny DeVito, 81, and Christopher Henner, 73, recently reunited to celebrate their friend Mel Brooks receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The actors looked thrilled as they stood with Brooks, the director of beloved films like Terms of Endearment and As Good as It Gets, after he first gained recognition with Taxi.

Henner looked slim and youthful, wearing a black top and fitted pants with a bright blue blazer that added a splash of color to her outfit.

The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor opted for a relaxed look, pairing a loose-fitting charcoal suit with a Hawaiian shirt, bringing a touch of California style to the event.

DeVito shared stories celebrating Brooks, including when they first met during an audition for the show Taxi in 1978.

He described landing the role of Louie De Palma as a dream come true, admitting he was very nervous when he went to audition for the producers.

To ease the awkwardness, he jokingly asked, ‘Before we begin, who wrote this?’ DeVito was initially very worried, but thankfully Brooks burst out laughing, relieving the tension.

Danny DeVito spoke two years after the cast of Taxi got together on The View to reminisce about the show.

The event included appearances by Danny DeVito, Meredith Henner, Judd Hirsch, Tony Danza, and Christopher Lloyd. Carol Kane also participated, having previously played the wife of Latka Gravas – a memorable character created by the late Andy Kaufman and known for his mysterious background – in later seasons of the show.

Hirsch explained that the cast became very close friends, largely due to Tony Henner, who joked that she was ‘the swizzle stick that stirs the drink’ – the one who brought everyone together.

They support each other by going to each other’s performances, stay connected with bi-monthly Zoom calls, and sometimes meet up for dinner.

As a lifelong fan, it always felt like the cast of the show were truly a family, and that’s what made it so special. Danny DeVito has said they never took their success for granted, and I think that’s exactly why the show still connects with people after all these years. They really appreciated their audience, and it showed!

As a huge fan, I’ve always known the cast of Taxi was something special! They weren’t just actors; they really became ‘the cool kids’ around Paramount Studios. Apparently, they were famous for throwing the best after-work parties – I wish I could have been there!

The show followed a typical production process for American sitcoms at the time: they’d rehearse all week and then film episodes on Fridays in front of a live studio audience.
