Danny Boyle’s “explosive cinematic rollercoaster” starring Jack O’Connell and Claire Foy gets first look

The first image has been released for Ink, a new biographical movie starring Jack O’Connell and Claire Foy. Directed by the award-winning Danny Boyle, the film is based on a true story and is expected to be a popular release next year.

The new movie is adapted from James Graham’s 2017 play of the same name. It tells the story of editor Larry Lamb (played by O’Connell) and media tycoon Rupert Murdoch (played by Guy Pearce) as they work to revive the newspaper The Sun.

The period drama stars Claire Foy as Jules Davies, and is based on a work adapted for the screen by its author, Graham. Director Danny Boyle is a producer on the project, working with his frequent partner, Tessa Ross.

So, the first look at the movie shows me playing Larry, and apparently, he had a pretty interesting run at the newspaper. I play him starting in 1969 as an editor, and I’m there until 1972. Then I come back a few years later, but leave again in ’81. It’s a bit of an on-again, off-again gig, if you ask me!

The film Ink is being promoted as a thrilling and fast-paced story about a team of unconventional thinkers who dreamed up a revolutionary approach to news – one designed to give people what they crave and ultimately transform the world.

I’m so excited – they’ve officially started filming in London! We’re looking at a release sometime next year, and the fact that they just dropped the first image makes me think we won’t have to wait too long to hear more concrete details. I’m already counting down the days!

This film reunites Danny Boyle and Rose Byrne, who previously worked together on 28 Years Later earlier in 2024. Byrne will also star in the upcoming sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, with Boyle acting as a producer.

Actor O’Connell, who plays Sir Jimmy Crystal in the upcoming movie, described it as a strange and twisted relative to the popular film 28 Years Later.

Honestly, watching the film really drove home how powerful nature truly is. And it’s not as simple as ‘good guys versus bad guys’ with the infected, either. It’s more complex than that, and I think it’ll actually make you question who the real villains are, or if there even are any. It really gets you thinking!

Ink has no release date.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 16 January 2026.
