Danny Boyle reveals how his daughter stopped traffic to create that infamous deserted scene in 28 Days Later
Danny Boyle has revealed how his daughter helped him stop the traffic while filming 28 Days Later.
2002’s chilling post-apocalyptic horror movie features an unforgettable sequence where Cillian Murphy navigates a vacant London, learning that a deadly virus has led to the collapse of civilization.
Now, the director has disclosed his methods for filming the desolate sequences, particularly since they lacked the funds to shut down the road for it.
In a conversation with The Times, 68-year-old Danny shared that he also enlisted the aid of his 18-year-old daughter for assistance.
Despite lacking the funds to physically close the bridge, we had a strategy in place for our presence at 4am. Police officers can’t halt traffic themselves, but they will permit us to request drivers to do so.

‘We ended up employing many young women, among them my own daughter who was of legal driving age. Since all drivers were male at that time, we asked the female staff to move closer when needed and say politely, “Could you please make some room?” This approach worked effectively.’
In the initial version of the movie “28 Days Later”, Cillian Murphy, aged 49, portrayed a bicycle messenger who awoke from a coma to find out about an unintentional virus release. This virus was extremely contagious and had the ability to trigger aggressive behavior, leading to the collapse of society.
Although there had been much excitement and conjecture about him returning for the sequel, when the trailer was released in December, it seemed as though a character bore a striking resemblance to Cillian Murphy’s character Jim from the original movie – appearing to be a zombified version instead.
Conversely, this theory swiftly lost credibility once a London art dealer and model came forward, claiming he was behind the portrayal of the zombie character.
I’ve got some exciting news to share! Danny has verified that Cillian will be joining us for the second and third movies in this upcoming trilogy. Plus, he’s taking on the role of executive producer too!
Regarding Cillian’s part in the upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller, Danny shared with IGN: “He appears in the sequel”, further mentioning: “I don’t want to reveal too many details – I might end up as a casualty.
He continued by explaining: “We haven’t secured funding for the third project as of now. The success of the first one will determine if we can proceed. Fingers crossed, if things go well, they’ll approve both the funds and the project for the third one. Everyone is eagerly awaiting this decision, even Cillian.
Earlier this week Jodie Comer admitted she was ‘scared’ while filming the new zombie thriller.

In the upcoming movie, the 32-year-old actress takes on the role of Isla, who is married to Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character Jamie, a scavenger.
Moreover, although the movie aims to scare cinema-goers, Jodie shared an experience where even though she was part of the film, she was surprised by her own reactions. She emphatically stated that it’s impossible to feign the feelings portrayed in her on-screen performance.
In an interview prior to the movie’s premiere next week, Jodie shared her thoughts: “Working on a set directed by Danny Boyle was truly extraordinary.
‘Observing the interaction between the camera, the characters, and the plot, as well as witnessing how this dynamic is brought to vivid life.’
Initially, I was quite shocked since I had been enjoying the scenery for a long time and then, all of a sudden, I found myself being pursued. I became terrified – there’s an undeniable tension that comes with such moments, and it can’t be faked. Experiencing these intense situations is exhilarating, thrilling, and absolutely terrifying.
She further stated about the movie’s director, “I believe Danny infuses this genre with a sense of humanity and emotion.
