Dannielynn Birkhead, 18, Channels Late Mom Anna Nicole Smith in Iconic Gala Dress

This week, I proudly stepped into my beloved mother’s shoes, donning one of her iconic dresses. Just like Anna Nicole Smith, I strive to radiate her timeless elegance and charm.

In 2025, the 18-year-old went to the Barnstable Brown Gala, sporting a halter-neck black dress similar to the one Smith wore there 21 years prior.

This outfit’s tailored set-up includes a deep v-neck design along with a modest split in the front, while dazzling silver accents add a touch of glamour, noticeable not just at the front but also at the backside of the gown.

Dannielynn gathered her golden hair into a loose bun, exposing her fringe on either side, reminiscent of Anna’s hairstyle during her appearance at the gala back in 2004.

On Friday, Larry Birkhead took his daughter to the celebrations in Kentucky, and he shared some pictures from the event on Instagram.

As she stood alongside the teenager, both adorning the same dress that was once her mother’s, the photographer referred to the moment as a “return to the starting point” or simply “coming full circle.

In the heading of the post, he wrote: ‘Starting off Kentucky Derby weekend with Dannielynn. Our first stop is The Barnstable-Brown Gala.’

21 years after the initial event, Dannielynn opted for a dress that her mother, Anna Nicole, had worn at the same occasion two decades prior. It feels like a return to the past. She explained her decision by stating that the dress was her mom’s and she found it “extremely fashionable.

He mentioned, ‘Next on the schedule is the Kentucky Derby races. It’s a joy for me to hang out with my niece Chloe (seen in the photo). I’ll make an effort not to disgrace them with my dancing skills.’

Prior to going to the gala on Friday, Larry shared with People that it was an emotional experience to witness his daughter donning a dress that had once belonged to her late mother.

Anna Nicole Smith died unintentionally due to a drug overdose at the age of 39, in February 2007.

Birkhead shared that it was a touching moment for him, as the last time he had seen that specific dress was when it was worn by Anna. He went on to remember how, when Dannielynn was young, she walked up to the dress and gently placed her hand upon it.

Now that she’s finally old enough to use it, it feels almost unreal that we’ve reached this point in time.

The teenager chose her mom’s outfit for the occasion, and her dad thinks she’s trying out a personal fashion project. To him, it seems quite significant for her to don that dress.

Larry went on to say, “It’s wonderful that she’s begun to adopt some of Smith’s wardrobe since she has the potential to select a unique outfit every day without ever repeating the exact same ensemble.

At present, he keeps Anna’s clothes on hand for his daughter, should she desire them later on.

She’s beginning to explore and develop an interest in the fashions and items that are part of her mother’s lifestyle.

Dannielynn has attended the Barnstable Brown Gala with her father since she was a little girl. 

In the previous year, as they visited the occasion, the duo gleamed bright smiles, and the young lady adorned a chic Gianfranco Ferre gown, which had earlier been sported by Janet Jackson.
