Daniel Radcliffe’s forgotten real-life thriller is now on Netflix
Daniel Radcliffe’s forgotten thriller Escape from Pretoria has been released on Netflix.
The 2020 film narrates the true events surrounding several anti-apartheid detainees in 1979 South Africa as they devise an audacious prison break. It is adapted from a book written by one of the escapees, Tim Jenkin, who is played by Radcliffe in the movie.
Netflix added the movie to watch for users in the UK and Ireland from yesterday.
The movie titled “Escape from Pretoria” was generally well-received by reviewers when it premiered, with a commendable 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The general opinion on the site is that “Escape from Pretoria” fails to fully convey the weight of its factual narrative, but it makes up for this with thrilling and authentic escape scenes from prison.
As a passionate admirer, I’d like to share my take on the critiques of two esteemed publications. The Guardian’s Wendy Ide commended the swiftly moving script and jittery cinematography in her three-star review. On the other hand, Clarisse Loughrey from The Independent described it as an intricately plotted film, also awarding it three stars in her assessment.
The movie is directed and co-written by Francis Annan, with Daniel Webber from “The Punisher” and Ian Hart, a cast member of the “Harry Potter” series alongside Radcliffe, in its starring roles.
Radcliffe’s upcoming film schedule is packed with several exciting projects, such as the third installment of “Now You See Me” and “Batso,” where he will be working alongside Ethan Hawke and Jessica Biel.
The later events will depict the ascent of Warren ‘Batso’ Harding and Dean Caldwell up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park during the 1970s.
In the year 2023, Radcliffe became a father to a baby boy, whom he had with his partner, Erin Darke. Later on in the same year, they shared a heartwarming moment as their son reached a significant milestone.
I’m beaming from ear to ear, and it’s just perfect! You know, there are those who eagerly await such moments for much longer. So, I’m truly overjoyed about this!” (Said to E! News)
Escape from Pretoria is available to stream now on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
