Daniel Radcliffe understands the pressure of leading a major franchise, having been the star of Harry Potter for over ten years. Now, many fans are hoping he’ll join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a leading role.
Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men, and returned to the role several times, most recently in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite many fans wanting Daniel Radcliffe to take over the part, the actor has again denied rumors that he’s being considered for the role in a recent interview with ComicBook.
I was so excited when I heard rumors that Daniel Radcliffe might be in Deadpool & Wolverine! Sadly, it turns out it wasn’t true at all. He actually said it was just a fun internet rumor, but he was really flattered by it, which is nice to hear.
However, no one in a position to actually do anything ever proposed it.
Daniel Radcliffe Broke Silence on Replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Radcliffe admitted he’d be foolish not to think about taking on the role, but he has no desire to follow in Hugh Jackman’s footsteps as Wolverine. He’s content to let Jackman remain the definitive Wolverine, especially considering how iconic he’s made the character, and doesn’t want to attempt to fill those shoes.
Following the release of the highly successful 2024 superhero film, writer Rhett Reese addressed a popular rumor. He confirmed that Daniel Radcliffe was never a candidate for a role in the movie, stating, “It was a rumor that got a lot of attention, but he wasn’t considered.”
Will Daniel Radcliffe Join the Superhero World?
When asked about possibly appearing in a Marvel superhero movie, Daniel Radcliffe admitted he wasn’t very familiar with the current state of the franchise. He said he’d need to get up to speed on the films, but he’s definitely open to the idea.
Okay, so there was this rumor going around that Daniel Brühl might be in the new DCU movie, and honestly, I got a little excited! But James Gunn, one of the heads of DCU, quickly shut that down. He said Daniel’s a great actor, but they haven’t even spoken to him about it – totally false! Turns out, Tom Rhys Harries is the one who landed the part instead. A bit disappointing, but I’m still looking forward to seeing who he brings to the role!
You know, I was reading an interview with Daniel Radcliffe, and he basically said he’d never say never to revisiting the Harry Potter world. But he’s not actively trying to get back in, either. What he really cares about is a good script. He’s at a point in his career where he can pick and choose projects based on quality, and if something came along that was really interesting, unique, and just plain cool, he’d totally be game, no matter what it was.
It’s understandable why Daniel Radcliffe wouldn’t want to be involved in a potential Harry Potter reboot. Having grown up as the face of such a massive franchise, he understands the pressure that comes with leading a major series. He wants the new cast to have the freedom to create their own interpretations of the characters and make the roles their own.
Honestly, I get why Daniel Radcliffe would sign on for a superhero movie now. After spending over two and a half decades known almost entirely as Harry Potter, the last thing he needs is to step into someone else’s established role – especially someone as iconic as Hugh Jackman. He’s already battling typecasting, so starting fresh feels like the right move.
