Actor Daniel Mays, known for his role in “Line of Duty”, is now part of the main cast of the upcoming Disney+ series titled “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes“.
The four-part series is based on the tragic killing of innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, who was shot dead by officers of the Metropolitan Police in 2005 after he was mistaken for a terrorist.
The official synopsis reads: “As London reels from the devastating suicide bomb attacks of 7 July 2005, the Metropolitan Police launches a large-scale counter terrorism operation to prevent further attacks. Unbeknownst to them, another terrorist cell plots an assault that could equal the devastation of 7/7.

In a subsequent attempt at orchestrated assaults, the operations falter, igniting one of the UK’s most extensive manhunts in history and initiating a clandestine surveillance mission. As apprehension and unease escalate nationwide, a string of unforeseen incidents transpires, culminating in a significant mistake in identification.
“Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent young Brazilian electrician on his way to work, is mistaken for a terrorist and shot dead at Stockwell station. What follows is a family’s fight for justice and answers, and the long-fought struggle to bring clarity to a situation that is clouded by confusion, and silence.”
The new recruit, Edison Alcaide, will portray Jean Charles de Menezes, while Daniel Mays assumes the character of Cliff Todd, the leading forensic investigator following the events of 7/7.

Alongside Conleth Hill from “Game of Thrones,” portraying Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair, we have Russell Tovey known for his work in “Years and Years” playing Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick. Additionally, Max Beesley, who was in “The Gentlemen,” takes on the role of Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman.
In the movie set in Peru featuring Paddington, actress Emily Mortimer is playing the role of Cressida Dick – a high-ranking officer, who served as the Gold Commander during the investigation targeting suspected bombers.
Completing the impressive cast are Laura Aikman, famously known for her role in ‘Gavin & Stacey’, portraying Independent Police Complaints Commission secretary Lana Vandenberghe, and Alex Jennings, recognized from ‘The Crown’, stepping into the role of barrister Michael Mansfield KC.
Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes will premiere on Disney+ in spring 2025.
