As a seasoned gamer who has seen his fair share of movies, I must say that the decision to honor Daniel Kaluuya with a statue in London‘s Leicester Square is nothing short of brilliant! Growing up, I was always captivated by the larger-than-life figures immortalized in those squares – from Paddington Bear to Batman. Now, seeing a fellow Brit like Daniel Kaluuya joining their ranks is truly heartwarming.
As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but feel a surge of pride seeing that my fellow Londoner, Daniel Kaluuya, will have his remarkable breakout performance in ‘Get Out’ honored with a stunning statue in our beloved city!
Amongst 5,000 British fans, a particular star was selected to receive an honor in the Scenes in the Square series located in London’s Leicester Square. This square already boasts statues of Paddington Bear, Harry Potter, Batman, Wonder Woman, Mary Poppins, and Gene Kelly playing Don Lockwood from Singin’ in the Rain.
In the voting, Kaluuya secured about 20% of the total votes, and his image will be used to represent a pivotal scene from the chilling horror movie “Get Out,” which was highly praised by critics, that is being directed by Jordan Peele.

The statue will be revealed in October, during both Halloween and the UK’s Black History Month, as a tribute to the movie’s role in shedding light on the everyday lives of African-Americans.
Mark Williams, deputy CEO of Heart of London Business Alliance, who oversees Scenes in the Square (a program backed by Westminster City Council), expressed his enthusiasm about featuring Daniel Kaluuya and Jordan Peele’s film ‘Get Out’. He sees it as a fitting tribute to contemporary cinematic triumphs and the emergence of talented British artists,” is one possible way to paraphrase the original statement.
This development on our path signifies a promising, radiant future, where Kaluuya stands as an emblem of the upcoming era in entertainment. It’s truly delightful to shine a light on such groundbreaking cinema.

In the year 2017, the movie “Get Out” was unveiled, featuring Daniel Kaluuya portraying Chris Washington, a photographer. Chris embarks on a trip to upstate New York to encounter his girlfriend Rose Armitage (played by Allison Williams)’s family. However, he soon becomes suspicious about the unusual curiosity her parents show towards him.
In 2018, the movie earned four Academy Award nominations, among them Best Actor (Kaluuya) and Best Picture. Subsequently, Peele took home the award for Best Original Screenplay.
