Daniel Day-Lewis comes out of retirement to defend Paul Dano after Quentin Tarantino swipe

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Sir Daniel – Sir Daniel Day-Lewis! – actually came out of retirement! Can you even imagine? He did it all to defend Paul Dano, his co-star from ‘There Will Be Blood’! Apparently, Quentin Tarantino was just… awful about Paul, calling him ‘weak’ and ‘uninteresting,’ which is just ridiculous! It’s amazing that Sir Daniel would step in like that, it shows how much he respects Paul and, honestly, it just proves what a legend he is. I’m completely losing it right now!

Quentin Tarantino is facing criticism after making harsh comments about several Hollywood actors during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. The 62-year-old director’s remarks have drawn significant backlash.

During the podcast, he harshly criticized Paul Dano, calling him a poor actor, and also attacked Matthew Lillard, which quickly caused a strong negative reaction in Hollywood.

Daniel Day-Lewis, who hasn’t acted since his 2017 film Phantom Thread, has publicly supported Paul Dano, age 41, in a recent statement.

I’m a huge fan, and I saw this amazing post on Instagram! Someone shared a clip from Daniel Day-Lewis’s incredible movie, There Will Be Blood, and the caption perfectly captured my feelings – it said Paul Dano is one of the best actors around, and honestly, I completely agree. He’s so talented!

The Guardian contacted Day-Lewis’s team, who confirmed he agreed with the statement.

Daily Mail has reached out to Day-Lewis’ representatives for comment and have yet to hear back.  

Day-Lewis and Dano had worked together before Paul Thomas Anderson’s film; they both appeared in the 2005 movie The Ballad of Jack and Rose.

Meanwhile, Dano has shown that Tarantino’s scathing words haven’t slowed him down one bit.

In a podcast, Tarantino discussed Paul Dano, saying that while the film was intended to focus on two main actors, Dano’s performance felt underwhelming. He bluntly described Dano as ‘weak sauce’ and ‘the weak sister,’ implying he didn’t hold up his end of the performance.

Austin Butler would have been a great fit for the part. Paul Dano just doesn’t bring much energy or excitement to his roles.

His savage comments have sparked backlash online as one Reddit user branded him ‘classless’.

They penned: ‘This was an incredibly classless thing for Tarantino to say.’

Others wrote: ‘This is an insane take.’

It seems like there’s some personal conflict happening behind the scenes. Also, I genuinely think Tarantino is a terrible actor, so perhaps he’s trying to label someone else with that reputation.

During the chat, he named his top ten movies of the 21st century, with a war film leading the list.

He named Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down (2001) as the best film of the current century.

Tarantino praised Ridley Scott’s war film, which was based on the true story of a Black Hawk helicopter crew that was shot down during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia.

He said he initially enjoyed it, but it became overwhelming and he eventually lost interest, not continuing to use it as much as he thought he would.

He went on to watch the film a few more times, referring to the film as a ‘masterwork’.

This film is unique in its dedication to capturing the atmosphere and visual style of ‘Apocalypse Now,’ and I believe it succeeds beautifully.

The filmmaker explained that the movie maintains a high level of excitement throughout its nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime. They recently rewatched it and said it was just as gripping as the first time, keeping them on the edge of their seat from beginning to end, even though they hadn’t seen it in a while.

As a lifestyle expert, I have to say, the direction in this film is truly remarkable. It really elevates the performances of a fantastic cast, including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, and Eric Bana. It’s one of those things that just works, and it’s a big part of why I enjoyed it so much.

Several of the actors in Black Hawk Down were just starting out in their careers, such as Tom Hardy, Orlando Bloom, and Jason Isaacs.

The movie received four Academy Award nominations and won two for Best Film Editing and Best Sound.

Ridley Scott is a celebrated director known for iconic films like Gladiator (2000), Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), and Kingdom of Heaven (2005).

Quentin Tarantino surprisingly ranked the animated film Toy Story 3, directed by Lee Unkrich, as his second favorite movie.

Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation came in at number three, and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, another war movie, followed close behind.

He ranked Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood as his fifth favorite, then listed David Fincher’s Zodiac and Tony Scott’s Unstoppable as following closely behind.

Rounding out his top ten were George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road at number eight, Shaun of the Dead by Edgar Wright, and Midnight in Paris from Woody Allen, taking the final position.

Meanwhile, Tarantino referred to his second pick, Toy Story 3, as an ‘almost perfect movie’.

He said the final five minutes were incredibly emotional, to the point that he struggled to talk about the ending without becoming overwhelmed. He simply called it ‘remarkable’.
