Daniel Day-Lewis, 68, supports his son Ronan, 27, at the premiere of their film Anemone at the New York Film Festival after returning to acting for the first time in eight years

Daniel Day-Lewis and his son, Ronan, were spotted together at the New York Film Festival on Saturday for the premiere of their movie, Anemone. It was a rare public appearance for the usually private actor.

Sixty-eight-year-old actor, known for ‘The Last of the Mohicans,’ and his 27-year-old son were all smiles on the red carpet. They were celebrating the son’s first feature film as director, in which the father plays a starring role.

Daniel looked sharp in a grey suit, while Ronan, who is also a painter, chose a more relaxed look with a boho shirt and black pants.

The father and son duo stopped for snaps with British composer and artist Bobby Krlic.

Ronan’s psychological drama tells the story of a man who spent two decades living alone in the forests of Northern England, and his subsequent reconnection with his brother.

The British actor’s son is a producer on the film, working with Brad Pitt. He also stars in the movie with Sean Bean, Samantha Norton, and Samuel Bottomley.

During the panel discussion, Daniel seemed cheerful while talking about Ronan’s upcoming movie. He joined Ronan and actor Sean, age 66, on stage to discuss it.

The actor best known for playing Lincoln is celebrating his return to film after an eight-year break, recently clarifying that he never intended to stop acting.

Daniel recently shared that he still feels a bit sad watching his son, Ronan, pursue a career in filmmaking, especially since he stepped away from the industry himself.

When Daniel announced his retirement in 2017 at the age of 60, it came as a surprise to many in Hollywood.

Now that he’s back on screen in *Anemone*, he’s shared that he was simply planning to pursue other projects at the time.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Daniel said the talk of his retirement felt like unnecessary exaggeration. He clarified that he never actually planned to retire.

‘I just stopped doing that particular type of work so I could do some other work.’

The famous actor, known for roles in films like Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood, and The Last of the Mohicans, didn’t publicly explain why he left at the time. His representatives simply stated it was a personal matter.

Daniel Day-Lewis has decided to stop acting, according to a statement from his spokesperson. They said this is a personal decision and that neither he nor anyone representing him will be discussing it further.

Daniel said he’d really enjoy working on the project with his son.

Honestly, it really bothered me knowing Ronan would keep making films, and I was leaving all of that behind. There was a lingering sadness about it, a feeling I couldn’t quite shake.

A father and son collaborated on the screenplay, a story that delves into the complex bonds between fathers, sons, and brothers.

Filming started last October in Manchester. While details about Daniel’s character, Ray Stoker, haven’t been officially released, reports suggest he’s a former soldier.

Daniel Day-Lewis received an Oscar nomination in 2017 for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, Phantom Thread, after which he announced his retirement from acting.
