James Bond star Daniel Craig has shared his response to the franchise’s shocking new development.
This week, it was made known that Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who have been producing Bond films for quite some time, are relinquishing their creative control over future projects. Instead, they are transferring the leadership role to Amazon MGM Studios as part of a new partnership aimed at managing the franchise’s copyrights.
2021 marked the conclusion of Craig’s tenure as James Bond, lasting across five movies and a span of 15 years. Now, he’s spoken out regarding this development, expressing his admiration towards Wilson and Broccoli.
He expressed that his regard, esteem, and affection for Barbara and Michael continue to be strong and unwavering, as stated in a public announcement (according to Variety).
I genuinely hope that Michael enjoys a peaceful, extended retirement, one he truly deserves. As for Barbara, I’m confident her future endeavors will be nothing short of amazing. Here’s to hoping I get the opportunity to join in on those adventures with her.
Since 2022, Amazon has been granted the distribution rights for James Bond films, following its acquisition of MGM. However, the duo of Wilson and Broccoli continued to hold creative control until this recent project. Yet, they will still be joint owners of the franchise.
In a remarkable span of almost six decades as a 007 producer, Wilson has decided to take a step back in order to concentrate on artistic pursuits and charitable endeavors.
Consequently, Barbara and I concur that it’s high time for our reliable collaborator, Amazon MGM Studios, to guide James Bond towards the future.
Broccoli expressed that his life’s work revolves around preserving and expanding the exceptional heritage bestowed upon Michael and him by their father, the film producer known as Cubby Broccoli.
For years, I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate closely with four exceptionally gifted actors who portrayed James Bond, as well as countless other remarkable artists in this field. With the end of ‘No Time To Die’ and Michael stepping away from the films, it seems appropriate for me to shift my attention towards other projects.
