As an ardent admirer of Daniel Craig’s illustrious career, it is awe-inspiring to delve into the life experiences of this enigmatic actor. His portrayal of James Bond has been nothing short of iconic, and his five films in the franchise have cemented his place among the greats. Yet, even a man of such extraordinary talent is not immune to feelings of envy or emotional exhaustion.

He played James Bond in five films and has an estimated fortune of £125 million.

But Daniel Craig has admitted he still envies other actors when they get jobs he wanted. 

In my ardent admiration, I can’t help but feel a pang of envy each time another actor lands a role I covet deeply. Yet, I am honest about it.

‘Someone gave me great advice earlier on – don’t get bitter, it’ll eat you up.’

In his latest endeavor, Daniel is acting in the movie “Queer.” This film portrays the story of an American expatriate and war veteran named William Lee, played by Craig. He embarks on a romantic relationship with a younger individual, Eugene Allerton, who is portrayed by Drew Starkey.

The actor recently revealed that he felt ’empty’ and emotionally ‘exhausted’ after shooting each of his James Bond movies.

From 2006 through 2021, Daniel appeared in five Bond films. Now, he has confessed that these financially successful movies had both a physical and emotional impact on him.

Initially, I harbored the notion that I needed to engage in additional endeavors alongside Bond, but that wasn’t truly necessary. Instead, I was gradually gaining recognition, a concept I found perplexing at the time, and filmmakers were eager to include me in their projects. Remarkable, indeed.

‘Most actors are out of work for large chunks so you take your job offers – but they left me empty. Then, bottom line, I got paid. 

At the conclusion of that grueling project, I felt drained to the core and needed nearly half a year to mentally recuperate. My perspective has consistently been that personal life should take priority, but when my job demanded more attention temporarily, it left me depleted.

Daniel continues to have a deep affection for the James Bond series, and he’s eagerly waiting to discover where producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson plan to steer it in the future.

He added that who the next Bond could be ‘isn’t my decision or problem’ but said he wished those choosing ‘good luck’.   

In the very same interview, the actor disclosed that at first, he declined the offer to portray James Bond because he was apprehensive it might restrict other acting possibilities within the film industry for him.

He portrayed 007 in five movies spanning from 2006’s Casino Royale to 2021’s No Time To Die, but admits he had reservations about taking the part of the legendary spy.

Daniel admitted that he indeed felt apprehensive about taking on the Bond role. To clarify, he declined the offer; in other words, his response was a “No”.

At that moment, since no script was available, my overconfidence was astonishingly high. I essentially said, “Until I get a look at the script, I can’t possibly take a call on it.

Furthermore, it was the same apprehension you mentioned, regarding that entity and numerous others, about how drastically it could alter my existence.

At that point in time, I was comfortably earning a decent income, which meant that if I had continued with my current lifestyle, I would have found contentment and satisfaction.

‘But it was really one of those things where – I mean to be typecast as James Bond? Boo-hoo.’

Between his Bond movie appearances, Daniel also played roles in films like Defiance and Cowboys & Aliens. However, he admitted that his efforts to demonstrate his acting range left him feeling exhausted.

He mentioned that he believed he needed to demonstrate his worth, but eventually recognized that he lacked the necessary stamina for such an endeavor.

‘It’s not knocking movies like ‘Defiance’, because I’m very proud of them. 

When I’m fully immersed, Bond is my breath, my heartbeat – every film consumes approximately two years of my existence; I’m gone from home for more than half a year; and the notion of making room for someone else due to the relentless pursuit of demonstrating versatility to the world, seems ludicrous. Thus, I chose to step away from that mentality.

Among the films I have worked on, there are a few I am particularly proud of, but they left me feeling drained. Instead, it was wiser for me to focus primarily on the Bond series.
