Dangerous Fruit Stunt Near Simon Cowell Shocks Amanda Holden on BGT
Amanda Holden has tackled challenging roles, ranging from cleaning bathrooms to harvesting fruits and selling perfumes at Boots. Now, she’s an unstoppable celebrity juggernaut. With her versatile talents in singing, dancing, acting, hosting, judging on Britain’s Got Talent, and more recently, home makeover expert alongside Alan Carr, she has achieved success in every field she’s ventured into.
If there was any doubt, Harry Styles himself admitted that when he practices his hit song “Golden,” he switches the lyrics to “Amanda Holden.” Overjoyed by this, Amanda Holden herself expressed her joy, while still maintaining her humble stance as a ‘lucky waitress.’
Should everything crumble the next instant, I’d be heartbroken, but I’d gladly return to my old job at Tesco as a cashier, if necessary. I’d go to great lengths just to earn some money. It’s about survival, preserving my pride, and perseverance.
Her strong work ethic traces back to her modest upbringing in Hampshire, where she was abandoned by her father at the age of four. Starting from the age of 13, she juggled multiple part-time jobs and inherited her tenacity from a series of resilient and inspiring women, such as her grandmother Ethel, who held a position in the accounting department at Wall’s Ice Cream Company.
She’s worked as a waitress, cleaned, made beds, and even picked fruit – whatever was necessary to make ends meet, she adds with a chuckle. Yet, she quickly assures, there’s always the underlying concern of not having enough money for food. When it comes to children, however, the focus becomes ensuring they are well-fed.
Today, she started her day at 5 am, broadcasted her weekly Heart Breakfast radio show alongside Jamie Theakston, launched the new Motherland spin-off series Amandaland, hurried back home to celebrate her daughter Hollie’s 13th birthday, returned to Central London for The One Show, and ended up attending a film screening in Soho. It’s safe to assume she managed a brief workout on her Peloton bike, but there was definitely no time for a covert nap.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Amanda and Alan’s third installment of their beloved Spanish home renovation series on BBC, known as “Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job,” has just kicked off. Additionally, exciting news lies ahead as Amanda will be hosting the upcoming Netflix spring dating show titled “Cheaters: Unfinished Business.
She’s additionally preparing to host a fresh BBC game show on Saturday nights, set for later this year, titled “The Inner Circle.” In this program, competitors work together to accumulate a cash prize, but they must subsequently partner with their adversaries to claim it – a twist reminiscent of the show “The Traitors,” where these partners could potentially betray them.
Today, she’s present before us, prior to the commencement of the 18th season of Britain’s Got Talent. Here, she’ll once again occupy her usual position on the judging panel, alongside Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli.
In 2007, Britain’s Got Talent served as a significant milestone for Amanda. At that time, she stepped in at the last minute to fill Cheryl Cole’s spot in Girls Aloud. With her characteristic determination and genuine understanding of contestants, she quickly made the part her own. She stood out as a refreshing alternative to television’s harsh critic.
I’ve found myself utterly captivated by Britain’s Got Talent! It just continues to deliver, showcasing a diverse array of exceptional talents, with performers hailing from Japan, Korea, and even our very own eccentric, fabulous, and quintessentially British individuals.
‘Additionally, I’ve noticed a return of the original “Mr. Nasty,” a character trait I appreciate. I don’t desire him to lose his edge, but surprisingly, he now offers stern rejections accompanied by lengthy, insightful discussions filled with advice and practical tips, which is quite endearing.’
Amidst the typical disorder, there’s quite an unusual spectacle. It includes a seagull performing acrobatics on a pole, a fellow playing rubber chickens, and another individual serenading Bruno while perched atop a colossal rooster.
In the spirit of transparency, I’d like to share an incident that gave us all a scare. It seems someone took an unnecessary risk with fruit backstage, and I can confirm it was a close call for our colleague, Simon. Although we always prioritize health and safety on set, this instance was particularly precarious due to the slippery stage. If not for quick reflexes, Simon might have suffered a serious injury, like a head trauma.

“It was tough for me to bear witness. I predict it’ll make its debut in the initial performance. It’s absolutely spine-tingling, even if the creators were bursting with amusement.
This season as well, music artist and boxer KSI is joining BGT as a guest judge. ‘He did an outstanding job,’ expressed Amanda. ‘I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from him. I’m constantly growing and discovering my potential.’
Today, I can’t help but marvel at the transformation I’ve witnessed! At 35, she stepped onto Britain’s Got Talent with brows over-plucked to high heaven and hair as mousey as a timid field mouse. But little did we know, her own unyielding passion, coupled with some extraordinary stylists and daring couture gowns, would redefine her image. Now, she’s a sight to behold!
She reflects that for the second season, she had to step up her performance. As an actress, she was accustomed to having makeup applied by someone upon arrival on set. However, she found herself under increased scrutiny regarding her wardrobe choices. Fashion has always been a personal interest of hers, but now it plays a more significant role.
At 53 years old, she’s right there with me. It’s fascinating, isn’t it? This past decade has been the pinnacle of my life. My 40s were great too, but at 50, I feel more confident than ever before. I no longer worry about what others think or say about me.
I dislike seeing people being overwhelmed by their circumstances. Instead, I tend to respond with resilience rather than thinking ‘Oh dear, why me?’ when bad things happen. But when something good occurs, my first thought is often ‘Why me?’, followed by ‘Why not?’ It’s a two-way street for me. Last year was an incredible time for me and some of my friends, while it was incredibly challenging for others in terms of relationships and health.
As a dedicated lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my co-host Jamie has bravely returned to our Heart Breakfast radio show after a grueling four-month journey. Jamie, like many laryngeal cancer survivors, underwent not one, but three surgeries and four months of vocal therapy. These treatments, at times, can rob patients of their ability to speak again. But Jamie’s resilience and determination have brought him back to us, a testament to the human spirit’s indomitable will.
Additionally, Jamie was warmly greeted by Davina McCall upon her return to radio following surgery for a benign brain tumor last year. In an unforeseen moment during a hug, Davina’s embrace inadvertently highlighted Jamie’s throat sensitivity as it turned out to be uncomfortable for him.

Amanda expresses her excitement: ‘It was fantastic to have Jamie back,’ she says. ‘For weeks, he’d been battling a sore throat, but receiving a text from his wife Sophie about cancer was devastating. The news was the worst-case scenario. However, upon further evaluation, it turned out to be the most optimistic diagnosis – he was diagnosed as stage one.’
As a lifestyle advisor, I found myself in a predicament every week, engaging in conversations with an individual who, surrounded by a loving family, left me at a loss for words on how to offer help. In an attempt to express my sentiments, I opted to send him a scarf, hoping it would serve as a subtle sign of concern and support. On a lighter note, I share a delightful bond with a remarkable woman named Sophie. She’s incredibly resilient, and together we find amusement in gently teasing a mutual acquaintance, Jamie, adding a touch of camaraderie to our friendship.
I mention: ‘They decided to keep his comeback under wraps until they were certain he could speak for three and a half hours, which he indeed did admirably. His appearance is noticeably improved. Notably, he’s adopted a vegetarian lifestyle. This life-altering experience has given him a unique outlook on life, a perspective often gained by those who have battled cancer.’
Amanda was equally affected by Davina’s diagnosis. ‘It left me stunned. Although I wouldn’t necessarily categorize her as a close friend, due to our limited social interactions, the news on her Instagram still came as a surprise. And with Jamie’s situation added into the mix, it’s hard not to think, “This is all turning for the worse.”‘
I recently reached out to Davina, who truly stands out as one of the kindest individuals in our field. She’s not only an exceptional hugger but also radiates positive energy. Unlike many of us who enjoy a good gossip or criticizing others, Davina remains untainted and flawless in every aspect.
Could the statement make one wonder if it concerned Amanda about her personal health? She expresses, “I’m quite adept at handling tough situations. I get an annual mammogram and blood tests. I believe that becoming a parent really heightens your awareness of one’s own mortality.
Following her divorce with comedian Les Dennis in 2003, Amanda began dating her soulmate, music producer Chris Hughes – who was connected to Les through his father Mike Hughes, a former agent of Les. They met at a fashion show in Los Angeles. The couple married in the year 2008, and their daughter Lexi, now 19 years old, was present at the wedding as she was only one at that time.
In the year 2011, they tragically experienced the stillbirth of their son, Theo, at seven months. A year later, Amanda welcomed Hollie into their family, but the birth was complicated by placenta accreta – a condition where the placenta becomes excessively attached to the uterine wall, causing severe bleeding during separation. Remarkably, Amanda managed to survive despite going into a coma and her heart stopping for 40 seconds after which it restarted on its own.
Such hardships serve as a trial for marriages, but Amanda shares that laughter was their saving grace. “Chris and I have always had a knack for finding humor in difficult situations,” she explains. “He tends to avoid drama. There are times when people don’t appreciate his humor, and I often tell him, ‘Go away, you’re not understanding it very well,'” she laughs good-naturedly.
Amanda exudes a traditional flirtatiousness rather than being modern and politically correct. She finds joy in cooking at home without clothes on, and Chris continues to pursue her playfully throughout their home reminiscent of Benny Hill. To put it simply, they don’t mince words or hide their feelings; instead, they openly express their strong opinions with no hold-backs, and their household is devoid of any political correctness or wokeness.
She understands that any comment could potentially harm her career, yet she’s concerned about being ‘cancelled’, even with her comedian friend Alan Carr who often uses edgy humor. However, she assures us that they employ a filter in their public discourse. Occasionally, her children correct them when something they say is no longer acceptable. They are constantly learning from their kids, but within private conversations, they can think whatever they please.
After 22 years together, it’s clear they still have the fire of romance burning between them. Every Thursday, they make time for a romantic outing – whether that’s going to the theater, enjoying dinner, or simply closing the door for some quiet Netflix time while the kids fend for themselves.
He’s quite occupied too, which makes me feel a bit nervous just thinking about meeting him. We have a knack for getting on each other’s nerves, but that’s what has kept us together since 2003.
Who has control in our relationship regarding certain aspects? She responds by saying that she does, particularly when it comes to household matters, personal decisions, and her friends’ activities. However, he plays a more significant role in her career choices as he is exceptionally knowledgeable in this field.
Amanda has strong friendships with both Simon and Alan, but she’s also deeply connected to a circle of women that includes Sarah Parish, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin.
During their weekends spent together, they have a lively, engaging time, filled with sharing stories and tips about raising daughters of similar ages. The gatherings often involve bringing ample amounts of alcohol, which sometimes leads to laughter and relaxed conversations. These moments serve as an opportunity for them to reflect on and validate one another’s parenting experiences.
The Netflix series titled “Cheaters: Unfinished Business” brings back ex-partners whose relationships disintegrated due to infidelity. With the assistance of a relationship specialist, Amanda assists eight previous couples in facing each other at a retreat, where they determine if they can surmount the betrayal and continue their relationship or if it’s time for them to part ways permanently.
She shares that one of her most memorable career moments was spent with an exceptional group who had captivating tales to share. The atmosphere was filled with gossipy, intriguing, and heartbreaking stories. I served as a sympathetic ear, learning about human nature, forgiveness, and relatability.
Amanda has experienced some criticism, yet she’s not the type to linger on it; instead, she focuses on progressing.
She expresses that she consistently aims for excellence in all her tasks and aspires to be both highly proficient and kind. She is deeply passionate about her work, a belief she reinforces by stating that significant accomplishments arise from dedication.
