Dancing With The Stars’ first elimination: Aussie icon sent home after BRUTAL slate from judges: ‘Seven weeks wasted’

2025’s first elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” saw an adored Australian figure bid farewell to their dancing journey.

On Sunday evening, this season’s novice ballroom dancers stepped onto the dance floor, engaging in a fierce competition to secure a place in the upcoming schedule of events.

In a affectionate nickname of “Madame Butterfly”, Susie O’Neill had difficulty overcoming her unease towards intimate contact, which led to her Foxtrot receiving lower evaluations.

Regrettably, among the impressive dancers in 2025, it was Olympic swimmer Susie who found herself at the bottom of the scoreboard, earning only 15 points, which led to her departure from the dance floor.

The judges appreciated her increasing self-assurance and commended certain aspects of her dance moves, yet Craig Revel Horwood offered starkly critical remarks.

‘Seven weeks and seven hours a day wasted, I’d say’ he said.

In spite of the criticisms, Madame Butterfly walked away with a proud air, radiating gratitude for not just mastering the art of dancing, but also learning the heartfelt act of embracing.

On Sundays, Michael Usher from 7NEWS opened the show by dancing an intense Paso Doble, heating up the atmosphere.

Although he didn’t quite fit the typical matador role and seemed more straightforward, the judges admired his acting skills and mastery of the cape.

The judges found him less conventional as a matador and somewhat straightforward, but they were impressed by his performance and handling of the cape.

Lastly: He didn’t fit the stereotypical matador image or appear particularly complex, yet he won praise for his acting skills and skillful use of the cape.

Just like Susie, AFL player Trent Cotchin conquered his discomfort around being close to others while learning the foxtrot. He dedicated this dance to his loved ones.

Despite a handful of missteps with his footwork, the midfielder received acclaim for his captivating narrative skills, graceful fluidity in movement, and evident progression.

Sharna Burgess expressed her admiration by saying, “You made a significant improvement this past week, I am truly impressed! Keep up the great work!” regarding the footballer’s advancement.

This week, boxer Harry Garside showed his softer side in a moving contemporary number.

In his performance, Mark Wilson was commended for his vulnerability, but he felt he had opted for a more cautious emotional approach. This sparked a challenge from Helen Richey.

‘I said you might be the heavyweight in this competition. Don’t you prove me wrong Harry.’

As a die-hard admirer, I couldn’t help but be captivated by Rebecca Gibney’s elegant display on the dance floor. She danced the Viennese waltz with such grace, and it was as if the rhythm of the dance was perfectly synchronized to her wedding song. It was a truly magical moment that I won’t soon forget!

The Gold Logie winner received praise for her effortless grace, majestic presence, and inherent sophistication. However, she was advised to focus on improving her command and smoothness in performances.

Instead, Brittany Hockley ended the performance with a spectacular samba that was filled with high-risk moves. This electrifying routine earned her the top position on the leaderboard with an impressive total of 31 points.

I’ve just accomplished something noteworthy, and for anyone else vying in this competition, it would be wise to take note of what I’ve done. That’s the message I received from Mark, and Sharna and Helen echoed the same sentiment.

Craig compared the rhythm of samba to that of a crumbling Violet candy, noting its delicate nature. However, he admired Brittany’s persistence and hard work.

Dancing With The Stars continues 7.00pm Sunday on Seven and 7plus
