Dancing on Ice: Shocking Moments That Left Fans Speechless Before Its Sudden Cancellation!

For almost twenty years, Dancing on Ice offered a glittering peek into the realm of skating, as novice celebrities stepped onto the ice to showcase an extensive variety of performances.

Following persistent declines in viewership over the past few years, ITV made an announcement on Wednesday that they are canceling the show, with no intentions to produce a new season in 2026.

A representative from the channel announced that due to the success of a recent series, Dancing on Ice will take a break in 2026 and there are currently no plans for another season.

It’s our pleasure to express our gratitude to everyone involved in the show since 2006, including the cast and crew, for their tireless efforts, whether on or off the ice, throughout the 17 series they have contributed to.

During its duration, Dancing On Ice has never shied away from excitement, whether it’s on the ice or behind the scenes. Celebrities often find themselves involved in heated arguments on stage, while also dealing with injuries such as broken bones when trying to replicate some of skating’s riskiest stunts.

Similar to how Strictly Come Dancing’s BBC counterpart has seen its share of the infamous “curse,” some celebrities found themselves entangled in passionate relationships with their dance partners, many of which have continued long after their time together on the ice rink.

As I reminisce about this incredible ride, let me share some of the most jaw-dropping moments that left us all in awe… TopMob style!

Iconic Falls 

In 2014, Todd Carty took everyone – including himself – by surprise when he unexpectedly lost his footing and soared through the tunnel during his act.

Accompanied by his skating partner Susie Lipanova, a past EastEnders actor momentarily lost his footing and tumbled out of the tunnel off-stage, leaving Susie to finish the performance on her own.

In week four, Todd was eliminated, with Judge Jason Gardiner remarking, “You’re more like an off-course train,” indicating that Todd wasn’t performing up to par.

While performing her elegant dance to “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Celine Dion, Gemma Collins experienced an unexpected fall during the performance.

Back in 2019, when a TOWIE celebrity stumbled and tumbled on the ice, her skilled partner, Matt Evers, promptly came to her assistance.

During the show’s holiday special that year, she returned as a spectator. She exclaimed, “My enthusiasm got the better of me, leading me to overdo my movements on the ice, which is not permitted. Unfortunately, my toe pick became entangled – and there I went.

‘I thought I was dead. I literally thought I was dead.’ 

Joe Pasquale managed to fall off the ice in his week one routine to Queen’s Flash.

As the performance drew to a close, the actor glided toward the podium on skates. Suddenly, he lost balance, soared off the ice, and tumbled into a pile. Quickly gathering himself, he struggled to his feet and unsteadily made his way to the top of the podium for an extraordinary conclusion to the routine.

In the final moments of the skating act, the actor gracefully approached the podium. However, he lost control and leapt off the ice, landing in a disorganized heap. Recovering swiftly, he stumbled his way to the top of the podium for a dramatic finish.

Injuries on the ice 

Participating in skating carries a well-known risk, and competitors always keep an eye out for potential hazards during their performance.

In 2012, Jennifer Ellison, an actress from “Brookside”, unintentionally hit her head when she attempted a challenging skating move.

Regardless of the injury sustained while executing a ‘scorpion kick’, she courageously completed her performance, earning her best score yet.

After completing her performance, the woman with blonde hair quickly departed to seek immediate medical attention due to bleeding from a head injury.

In the year 2006, England goalkeeper David Seaman inadvertently let go of his dance partner Pam O’Connor during their practice sessions.

The soccer player tried to spin his teammate around using her feet, but instead ended up hitting her face on the ice, necessitating a trip to the hospital.

Accusations of bullying   

As a devoted fan following the events, I’d like to rephrase a statement regarding Caprice Bourett and Hamish Gaman from 2020: After my departure from the show just two weeks in, Caprice Bourett accused Hamish Gaman of bullying.

Reports suggested that she was preparing to take legal action against ITV due to the aftermath and accusations that the skater psychologically manipulated her during challenging training periods.

It’s reported that Caprice expressed some discontent towards Hamish, leading to them being overseen by a supervisor during their practice sessions.

Despite the allegations, ITV said they ‘found no evidence of bullying’ on the show. 

At the given moment, ITV communicated to TopMob that they handle bullying claims with utmost gravity, yet they could not find any proof related to bullying during the show “Dancing On Ice.” They firmly deny any insinuations that contradict this stance.

On screen arguments 

Previously, Jason Gardiner, who was once a judge, departed from the show around six years back, after an episode where he had disagreements with contestant Gemma Collins.

2019’s series featured a tense dynamic between Jason and Gemma, as they frequently clashed while providing feedback to one another.

Eventually, the situation escalated dramatically when the TOWIE star leveled accusations against the judge, claiming he was “peddling stories” about her and suggesting she had subpar work habits.

Eventually, the commotion led to Jason losing his position on the show in 2019, with John Barrowman taking over instead. Prior to this change, Jason was let go amid allegations of improper conduct.

However, his disagreement with Gemma wasn’t a one-off incident; in fact, it wasn’t the first time he had encountered conflict. Back in 2011, he also had a run-in with Denise Welch’s ex-husband, Tim Healy.

Following Jason’s description of Denise and Matt’s daily activities as similar to a game of Twister, and labeling her previous week’s routine as dismal, Tim chose to handle the situation personally.

As an over-the-moon fan, even during Dancing On Ice’s 19th and final series, hearing a daring remark from my beloved co-host, Stephen Mulhern, left me absolutely speechless! He gracefully stepped into the role in 2024 after Philip Schofield took his leave.

As her former co-star on This Morning, her lips gaped wide in shock when her friend feigned ignorance after she announced that contestant Chris Taylor was performing the tune “Golden Hour.

Stephen appeared taken aback by the disclosure, humorously assuming that Holly was alluding to a mature or explicit sexual act.

Surprised, Holly caught her breath as realization struck her, just moments before the camera switched focus to show Love Island’s famous face and his companion practicing their skating routine before hitting the ice.

During the 2025 series, Ferne McCann, like others, participated. When she was eliminated from the show, her emotions were clearly visible. Reports indicate that she cried backstage following a briefened ice walk celebration, as sources claim.

It emerged that the star had been disappointed by her famous friends, as they didn’t offer public backing for her on social media while she was appearing on the TV show.

Backstage romances 

Similar to Strictly Come Dancing, the ITV program has also experienced the infamous ‘curse’ and celebrities often find themselves developing romantic feelings towards their dancing partners.

Actress Samia Ghadie, who starred on the popular British soap opera “Coronation Street,” parted ways with her fellow actor Will Thorp and later discovered joy with professional French figure skater Sylvain Longchambon. The two are now married and have a child together.

In addition, Sylvain parted ways with Jennifer Metcalfe, aged 40, from the ITV series Hollyoaks, following their encounter on the same program.

It’s said that Shona McGarty and her EastEnders co-star Matt Lapinskas broke up while he was still on the show, allegedly because of his romantic involvement with partner Brianne Delcourt.

After dating for a year, the actor found himself involved with a professional. However, their relationship ended when she broke up with him following accusations of infidelity.

David Seaman, now 60 years old, experienced the joy of finding love again with professional Frankie Poultney, who is 49, following his return to the show and subsequently becoming his third spouse.

Judges battling it out

One of the show’s most memorable moments was Jason and head coach Karen Barber’s on air argument. 

Following Karen’s attempt to provide constructive criticism towards Johnson Beharry VC, sharp-tongued Jason interjected with a derogatory remark instead.

In response to the former judge, he remarked, “If your thoughts carried weight, you’d still be part of the team.” Upon hearing this, Karen applauded, labeling it as inappropriate, and challenged his contributions to the program.

Once more, he managed to avoid being fired thanks to Karen’s reported intervention with the bosses.
