Dance Moms fans outraged by ‘disturbing’ JonBenet Ramsey-inspired routine after victim was sensationalized by gruesome murder
As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the entertainment industry and a deep appreciation for the impact of art, I find the Dance Moms: A New Era dance routine based on JonBenét Ramsey to be an unfortunate display of poor judgment and insensitivity. The tragic story of JonBenét is one that continues to touch the hearts of millions, and it is not something to be trivialized or used as a prop for competition.
A dance routine on the series Dance Moms: A New Era has garnered controversy over a dance number based on late murder victim JonBenét Ramsey.
11-year-old dancer Ashlan Scheide’s performance featured an unexpected segment where she depicted being choked, adding a dramatic element to her dance routine.
Many individuals expressed strong disapproval towards a performance inspired by Ramsey, a girl who sadly passed away at the age of six in her Boulder, Colorado residence back in 1996.
The high-profile incident, attracting nationwide interest, remains unsolved, with no arrests made in connection to it, and unfortunately, the child’s homicide still unresolved.
In one of my recent discussions, I found myself reflecting on an insight shared by my mom, Ashlan. She said, “Your path could lead you towards the world of beauty pageants, much like JonBenét, but her story took a tragic turn when she was taken and lost.”

Ashlan expressed apprehension after learning details about the situation involving Ramsey, yet she was ready to obey orders to ensure success in the contest.
‘This is really not for me, but I’ll do anything for the win,’ Ashlan said.
In the episode, Ashlan was seen going over the routine with her dance teacher Gloria Hampton.
A number of viewers were outraged by what they had seen on the series, which streams on Hulu.
In response to something she saw on the program, Evie Nagy expressed her astonishment by saying, “That’s hard to believe!” on Thursday, as reported by Inside Edition.

Hampton told Inside Edition about her background and creative process in a recent interview.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve honed my skills over the years, having orchestrated countless dance routines – from regional competitions spanning five weeks, to national events. With the responsibility of costuming thousands of young dancers for upwards of 450 unique performances, it’s become second nature to me.
She remarked, “Music truly ignites my creativity. It guides me towards my goals. A melody strikes me, and it sparks an idea within me. I can visualize what I want to accomplish when I listen to something pleasing.”
