Dana White’s epic troll job, Drake places UFC 305 bet &Kayla Harrison as backup?
As a lifelong fan of combat sports who’s seen my fair share of bloodied noses and broken dreams, I can’t help but appreciate the drama that unfolded this past week. From the brawl between Vettori and Allen at a PFL event to Drake’s hefty bet on Israel Adesanya, it’s clear that the combat sports world is never short of excitement.
Each day, I’ll dissect the latest news from the realm of combat sports and share my perspective with you in a fresh daily feature. Pop by each morning to explore the day’s top or most intriguing stories, along with my thoughts on them, conveniently located below.
Dana White delivered epic beatdown on PFL via Twitter
Had to be fight of the night if it was at PFL.
— danawhite (@danawhite) August 17, 2024
Over the weekend, news broke out that Marvin Vettori and Brendan Allen had a physical altercation during a PFL event in Hollywood, Florida on Friday night. Footage of the fight started circulating online, sparking widespread conversation on Twitter. However, it was Dana White’s remarks regarding the incident that truly caught everyone’s attention.
White delivered an epic jab at PFL when he wrote, “Had to be fight of the night if it was at PFL.” and the fans went wild. I love seeing these types of tweets and interactions from Dana. It really makes the moment even that much more fun.
Drake placed a UFC 305 bet
Drake wagered a significant amount of money, specifically $450,000, on Israel Adesanya to emerge victorious at UFC 305. As per his Instagram post, this bet stands to earn him $855,000 if his prediction comes true.
There has always been this notion of the “Drake jinx,” but given how frequently he places bets, it’s inevitable that he’ll occasionally lose. However, we should let go of the idea of the Drake jinx since it’s not a valid concept. Instead, it serves as an easy scapegoat when outcomes don’t favor us, and Drake happens to be an accessible figure for blame.
Kayla Harrison wants to be the back-up fighter for Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Kayla Harrison expressed her intention to serve as the backup fighter for the Raquel Pennington vs. Julianna Peña title fight in November. “I aimed to compete for the belt,” Harrison stated, “but it was made clear that the next opportunity would go to Julianna, so she has the chance for now. However, if either of them gets injured or ill, I’m ready to step in at short notice – be it two hours, an hour, or even 20 minutes.”
It’s great to consider Harrison as a backup contender for the title bout. She truly deserves this opportunity. Moreover, competing at 135 pounds will provide her with valuable experience since she hasn’t had many chances to do so. Additionally, a fight between Harrison and either of the co-main event competitors would certainly offer more thrilling action than the current matchup.
