I’m a huge combat sports fan and I can’t get enough of the latest news and happenings in this exciting world. In my daily column, I’ll be breaking down the biggest and most obscure headlines and sharing my thoughts with you.
In this new daily feature, I’ll share and analyze the latest combat sports news from various sources. Drop by every morning for a breakdown of noteworthy or intriguing stories, along with my perspective on each.
Dana White is super pissed at MGM
Dana White, president of UFC, expressed his disappointment towards MGM after they scheduled a Canelo Alvarez boxing match on the same night as UFC’s major Sphere event. In an interview with ESPN, White acknowledged respect for Canelo and Al Haymon, but felt betrayed as the date was taken from him. He has had a strained relationship with MGM for two decades, which he described as disrespectful towards him and the UFC. Ultimately, White remained resilient, ready to face the situation head-on.
White appears to have valid reasons for being frustrated about this booking, yet I genuinely believe he needn’t be concerned. The event is anticipated to sell out and be the most sought-after sports ticket. I’m intrigued to know what actions from the venue may have led White to feel disrespected and strained their longstanding partnership with the UFC. Previously, I had assumed they enjoyed a healthy working relationship.
Sean O’Malley vows to make Merab Dvalishvili ‘look stupid’
Sean O’Malley is risking his title in his upcoming clash with Merab Dvalishvili at UFC Sphere. Before the fight, O’Malley issued a strong challenge to Dvalishvili, declaring, “I will make Merab seem foolish. I will make him look ridiculous. I will make it clear that he doesn’t belong in the same ring as me. He may have good cardio and wrestling, and his striking is decent, but I am exceptional. He is average – I am exceptional.”
In every fight, each competitor will feel self-assured. However, I strongly believe that O’Malley should give Dvalishvili the due respect he deserves. This upcoming bout might be O’Malley’s greatest challenge yet. It would serve him well to concentrate more on his opponent and fewer interviews. Nevertheless, I cannot say for certain what preparations O’Malley is making privately.
Watch the full video of Alex Pereira and Sean Strickland sparring
Alex Pereira recently shared a video of approximately six minutes long, showcasing their intense sparring session with Sean Strickland. (Boxing glove emoji)
— MMA Orbit (@mma_orbit) July 26, 2024
In their training session, ex-UFC middleweight titleholder Sean Strickland shared a video featuring him sparring with previous middleweight and present light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira.
Rarely found are sparring videos of this duration. Fear often holds fighters back from sharing, concerned about exposing weaknesses or not appearing at their best. The rarity is amplified by the involvement of two elite UFC champions. Don’t miss your chance to watch it before someone else beats you to it.
