Dan Walker confirms his return to work after painful health battle - and teases brand new project

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Dan Walker’s resilience and adaptability are truly inspiring. The man has faced more challenges than most, from tearing ligaments in his wrists to battling a potentially life-threatening illness, yet he continues to push forward with grace and determination.

On Tuesday, Dan Walker resumed his job duties following several weeks of rest and recuperation due to a challenging health ordeal.

The 47-year-old broadcaster shared that he’s been discreetly working on a fresh endeavor in addition to his duties with Classic FM and Channel 5 News, which involves secret filming.

Dan disclosed to his followers in May that he had torn several ligaments in his wrists, which meant he needed to stay away from the golf course for a period of nine weeks as part of his recovery process.

On the following Monday, he shared: “Following a fortnight’s vacation and brief interlude for other projects… I’ll be returning to Classic FM breakfast and C5 News starting from tomorrow.”

‘Can’t remember my passwords for anything but I’m hoping they’ll let me in.’

Later, Dan shared on Instagram that he was working on a new project with renowned TV personality, Helen Skelton, and during his downtime from work, they both took a family vacation.

In February, it was disclosed by Dan that he often cried in the bathroom while hosting BBC Breakfast, as shared during his interview on This Morning.

In 2022, the previous host of BBC Breakfast’s morning program switched to presenting Channel 5’s nightly news. Currently, they are also working as a presenter for the Classic FM radio station.

Dan recalled that his early 3am starts was one of the difficulties of his job and made him struggle with bad sleep deprivation.

In an appearance on ITV Daytime’s The Morning Show, hosted by Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary, Dan discussed the disadvantages of rising extremely early for work twice a day.

He mentioned that when he was hosting BBC Breakfast, you understand the drill. When that alarm rings at 3 a.m., that’s certainly an ungodly hour, isn’t it? (It feels like getting ready for a flight to Spain.)

Currently, I wake up between 5:30 and 5:45 AM, which gives me a bit of a lie-in, but I feel fantastic, rejuvenated, and truly appreciate the work that I’m doing.

By Wednesday, I was completely drained and on autopilot, almost like a zombie. Additionally, my emotions were incredibly heightened. By Wednesday, it felt as though I had just watched the final episode of a show, leaving me tearful in the bathroom.

You’re easily moved or emotional. Hearing someone compliment your pants might make you act as if you were shedding tears, even though it’s not genuine.

On most days, he doesn’t weep, but it seems like the lack of sleep might make him feel a tad sentimental.

In November 2023, it emerged that he had been informed about his cancer diagnosis during a harrowing hospital experience in Poland.

After his kidneys failed, the broadcaster had to be rushed to the hospital where they administered approximately eight liters of saline fluid to him.

His head expanded significantly, and due to his excessively bloated body, he found himself unable to wear his boxer shorts; thus, he moved about in a state of nudity.

On White Wine Question Time’s podcast, Dan expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards his ex-colleague, Richard Hughes, for being by his side and taking him to the hospital during that scary incident that occurred in 2012.

As it transpired, Dan wasn’t diagnosed with cancer, rather he was fighting off a severe virus which impacted his kidney function adversely.
