Dan Rather devastated as wife Jean Rather dies at 89 following health battle: ‘The saddest of days’
As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of human lives, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of Jean Rather’s passing. Having had the privilege of living a life brimming with creativity and impact, she leaves behind an indelible legacy that transcends the boundaries of art and love.
Dan Rather‘s wife, Jean Rather, passed away at the age of 89 after a long fight against cancer, as shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday by friends close to the family.
Today brings great sorrow to Dan and the entire Rather family, as it was announced that Jean Rather, Dan’s beloved wife, has sadly passed away this morning at their home in Austin, Texas.
For quite a while, she’d been under hospice care, but the information about her passing left us stunned – it was unexpected for those close to her who cared deeply for her.
The statement continued: ‘Please keep the Rathers in your thoughts. Jean lived a full life as an incredible wife, mother, friend, and artist – and a true Texan.’
The family announced that Jean was surrounded by caring loved ones and admiring artworks when she passed away on Tuesday.
The family said that Jean’s ’cause of death was cancer.’

In my own words, I can say that I was an artist of great repute, whose works graced numerous galleries and private collections all over the United States.
According to the notice, she pursued art studies at American University and Mary Mount Manhattan College. Additionally, by meticulously examining the works of renowned artists in museums across England, France, Italy, Russia, Israel, Greece, Turkey, and Southeast Asia, Jean developed a distinctive contemporary philosophy and style all her own.
For eight years, Jean held the positions of Painter Member and Vice Chair within New York City’s Art Commission, as reported by her family.
According to her family, Jean was associated with various non-profit institutions like the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the University of Texas Press, and the Harry Ransom Center as well.
