Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye Delivers Epic Action and a Villain That Will Leave You Breathless!
In the year 2024, Dan Da Dan made a powerful impact. The duo of Fūga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora directed the series, surpassing initial expectations to guide Momo and Okarun towards mutual understanding, if not respect. However, it’s not just the narrative that has grown up. The fight sequences and character designs in Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye, comprising the first three episodes of season 2, are not only breathtaking but also significantly enhance the show’s overall quality. Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye kicks off season 2 with a powerful start, confirming that the impressive quality of season 1 was no accident.
During their visit to Jiji’s house, Okarun and Jiji start to suspect that the landlords might not be entirely honest about who they are. Meanwhile, at the hot springs, Momo encounters some suspicious individuals who almost take advantage of her. When the group connects these dots, it’s already too late. Unfortunately, they discover they are dealing with a family who perform child sacrifices in an attempt to thwart an old prophecy. It falls upon Okarun (Natsuki Hanae), Jiji, Momo (Shion Wakayama), and the formidable Grandma (Mayumi Tanaka) to intervene before this cult can cause any further harm.
Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye continues seamlessly from where season 1 ended, maintaining its quick-witted humor. Although there are fewer jokes about genitalia, the series still offers an abundance of audacious bodily humor. A perfect example is the third Kung Fu granny’s eccentric style, sporting a black Marie Antoinette wig.
In the initial season of “Dan Dan,” the sexual humor was remarkably balanced – it toe-the-line without overstepping, and managed to convey meaningful messages at the same time. Conversely, so far in “Evil Eye,” there seems to be less emphasis on fan service, though we’ve only watched three episodes.
Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye’s Action Is Excellent
The Fight Scenes Are On A Different Level
In the animated series “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye“, the major highlight is the intense battle between Okarun and the Evil Eye, which is almost flawless. The Evil Eye’s design can be attributed to Gongora, who opted for a striking bluish purple, providing an ideal contrast to Okarun’s fiery red. His earrings are particularly noteworthy. A long black rainbow forms a rectangle that emphasizes the Naruto-like eye on his forehead.
The battle between him and Okarun might be the part of the show that holds the most potential. Since the first season was so well-received, it’s unique among most anime as it could benefit from a traditional clash between two formidable characters. Moreover, Evil Eye piques our curiosity for future developments, leaving much to our imagination about what lies ahead.
Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye’s Characters Haven’t Changed Much
It’s The Fight Scenes That Are A Standout
Criticism of “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye” lies in a peculiar balance with its strengths. Unlike other seasons, Season 1 broke the mold and offered a narrative style that focused on characters instead of monsters. Regrettably, the initial three episodes fall short compared to the usual storytelling quality of “Dan Da Dan.” However, the fight sequences are so grandly choreographed that it’s difficult to fault the visual experience. As we wait to see if the script can recapture the heartfelt character interactions from Season 1, viewers can appreciate the action for now.
In the second season of “Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye,” the plot setup strikes a harmonious balance between tension and enjoyment. While the first season focused on introducing aliens and ghosts, the second season appears to be exploring the vast possibilities within the genre of intellectually stimulating animated series. Despite its playful tone, the show consistently demonstrates an understanding of its boundaries and the preferences of its anime audience.
