Damian Priest has the potential to be a huge babyface for WWE
As a long-time WWE enthusiast who has seen countless superstars rise and fall, I must say, Damian Priest’s journey is one that truly stands out. His meteoric rise from NXT to the main roster, and now his transformation into a full-fledged babyface, is nothing short of inspiring.
The 2024 WWE SummerSlam event was a significant one, advancing multiple storylines for both WWE Raw and SmackDown. A notable development saw Damian Priest being expelled from Judgment Day, as Finn Balor betrayed him, causing Priest to lose the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This unexpected turn of events has sparked a massive outpouring of fan support for Priest, making him an instantly popular figure in the company.
Ever since my debut on the main roster back in 2021, I’ve been fortunate enough to be handled with care by the creative team. It took me three years before I stepped into the main event scene, but during that time, I was consistently given significant roles on the show. Even while clutching the Money in the Bank briefcase, it seemed like I wasn’t a major title contender. As WrestleMania season approached and other top names stole the spotlight, it was easy to underestimate my potential. However, I’ve managed to emerge from the situation with more momentum than when I started.
Enthusiastic spectators applauded Priest throughout his August 5 performance on WWE Raw. From the initial confrontation with the newly formed Judgment Day and his battle against JD McDonagh, the cheers never stopped. This reached a peak when Rhea Ripley showed her backing, causing an even greater uproar in the audience, effectively shaking the building to its foundations.
WWE finds a potential asset in Priest, who can serve as another prominent Latin superstar for the company to develop. During his reign as champion, Priest was eager to engage with his community, showcasing the title at the Puerto Rican parade in New York City and participating in various media collaborations with Latino platforms. As the first Puerto Rican champion since Pedro Morales, it seemed that WWE recognized Priest’s immense potential as a top-tier performer.
It’s intriguing to find out where his career trajectory will lead in the coming months up until next year. The WWE main event scene is quite congested on both Raw and SmackDown, with figures like Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and others occupying top spots. His ongoing feud with Priest and Balor could potentially last until the Royal Rumble, keeping them both occupied during that period. However, his path after the Royal Rumble will reveal how highly the company values him in the long run.
Damian Priest has been given a chance to showcase his skills as a standout performer within the WWE. He excelled in his portrayal of “Senor Money in the Bank” and even claimed the World Championship. As a result, both fans and critics will get a clear picture of how WWE values him post these significant events. The audience has wholeheartedly embraced him as one of the latest fan favorites within the company, and he can expect a successful stint in this role.
