With deep regret, we must share the news that Dame Maggie Smith has passed away. She left us peacefully at a hospital this morning, on the 27th of September.
A very private individual, she was surrounded by friends and relatives in her final moments. She departs behind two heartbroken sons and five adoring grandchildren, all deeply mourning the passing of their remarkable matriarch.
Let me express our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, who showed immense compassion and kindness towards her in her last days.

With a highly celebrated career, Smith performed in a variety of roles on stage and screen.
In 1969, she earned her first Oscar as Best Actress for her performance in “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,” and in 1978, she was awarded the honor for Best Supporting Actress in “California Suite.
Smith was also awarded eight BAFTA awards throughout her lengthy career.
A younger generation might be familiar with Smith from her more contemporary memorable characters such as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham on Downton Abbey, and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter film series.
