As a compassionate observer of life’s most poignant moments, I find myself deeply moved by the story of Sebastien Bowen and his late wife, Dame Deborah James. The strength, resilience, and unwavering love they shared in the face of adversity is truly inspiring.

In my role as a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share a heartfelt piece of advice inspired by the wisdom of Dame Deborah James. After her passing, she left behind a touching request for her beloved husband, Sebastien Bowen – she encouraged him to embrace life and find love once more in the years ahead.

Two years after Deborah’s courageous fight against bowel cancer, it has been shared with TopMob that her surviving spouse has found joy by tentatively exploring the world of dating.

Reports from individuals near Dame Deborah’s spouse suggest that he has gone on several outings as part of his efforts to move forward following the campaigner’s passing in June 2022. Notably, she had raised over £11 million for cancer research through her Bowelbabe fund prior to her death.

A person who’s close to the couple shared: ‘Sebastian is gradually starting to explore dating again, but it’s still quite new for him. This is something that Deborah would have approved of, as he’s proceeding cautiously and isn’t eager for anything too serious just yet.’

Deborah was an exceptional partner, making a wonderful duo with her spouse. It will be challenging for anyone to match up to their remarkable bond. However, Seb believes it’s time for him to start a new chapter in his life, as Deborah encouraged and the rest of the family stands behind this decision.

A buddy of mine mentioned: “He’s gone out with several people, but nothing significant has come from it yet. However, I believe some of these ladies would be thrilled to enter into a serious relationship with him, and they’re happy to see him active again on the dating scene.

‘We’re happy for him and he’s comfortable with it all because he knows he has Deborah’s blessings.’

Deborah, renowned for her BBC Radio program “You, Me and the Big C,” courageously faced off against an aggressive form of bowel cancer for five years. Tragically, she passed away from the illness at the age of 40.

Before she passed away, she referred to Sebastian as a man who would undeniably catch the eyes of many ladies, given his irresistible charm and eligibility – a fact that I, as an ardent admirer, can’t help but wholeheartedly agree with!

She expressed: ‘I’ve made it clear to him what I expect: I want him to move forward. He’s an attractive man, essentially telling him, ‘Watch out for tricksters, don’t marry a shallow woman, find someone who shares your humor as we do.’

In my professional opinion, I’ve found it crucial to share some names of individuals whose company I might worry about my loved ones becoming too close with, post-my departure – and in Sebastien’s case, these were a select few women. Humorously, I created a list as a precautionary measure to help him steer clear of any potential romantic entanglements.

She said: ‘I had a list of girls that I was like, right, they’re going to pounce on my husband.

Furthermore, I mentioned a few names, jokingly saying I’d make every effort to give him a good scare should he associate with those individuals. To me, it was quite amusing.

Sebastian, aged 45, serves as a banker at the private equity company, Pomona Capital. His residence is a high-tech home located in one of London’s most sought-after neighborhoods, where he is widely recognized.

A nearby resident commented: ‘Seb is an extraordinary man, and everyone recognizes how outstanding a loving and supportive husband he was to Deborah. It’s well-known that her passing affected him deeply, but it’s heartening to see him regaining his footing. He truly deserves all the joy life has to offer.’

Sebastian hails from London and later studied at the prestigious St. Paul’s School. Afterward, he pursued higher education at the University of Edinburgh.

In 2005, the couple first crossed paths at the old London dance venue, Cafe de Paris. Three years after that fateful encounter, they tied the knot in France.

In September 2021 they celebrated 13 years of marriage.

13 years ago, Dame Deborah marked their wedding anniversary by posting a touching video on Instagram of them dancing in the French Riviera, accompanied by the caption: “My Solid Foundation for 13 Years.

The couple have two children, Hugo, 17 and Eloise, 15.

The news of Sebastien’s upcoming wedding is sure to bring joy to Heather, Deborah’s mother, as she expressed in a recent interview marking the anniversary of her daughter’s passing: “We grant Seb our approval. He should proceed when he feels prepared.

‘Deborah has set a high standard, but we’re confident he can succeed. Since Deborah encouraged his advancement, we support his progression as well.’

Deborah passed away at her parents’ residence in Woking, Surrey, during her last days, with her family—Sebastien and their two kids among them—by her side.

In a BBC interview last year, he opened up about the painful process of watching his wife die.

Sebastian expressed that it was an incredibly tough period. It’s challenging to put into words just how challenging it truly was.

Sebastian stated that Deborah had always been eagerly anticipating something, and she persisted in this action right up until the end.

He also candidly spoke about there being a ‘peace’ to her death.

Sebastian expressed that it was challenging to put into words, but his belief was that she passed away in one of the most ideal manners one could hope for when dealing with such a devastating illness.

She passed away with her mother, father, sister, and I by her side, our hands held close, offering comfort and companionship in her final moments.

‘It was as complete as it could be, and it was my first experience witnessing someone’s death. However, there seemed to be a sense of tranquility about it.’

‘I think she had done everything that she could’ve hoped to achieve.’

As a seasoned lifestyle guide, I’ve had quite a diverse journey. Once upon a time, I served as a deputy head teacher at Salesian College in Chertsey, Surrey. However, life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Instead of succumbing to the challenge, I chose to chronicle my fight against this formidable foe in a blog aptly titled Bowelbabe. This personal account ignited a new career path for me in journalism and catapulted me into social media stardom.

From the moment of her passing, donations to the Bowelbabe fund accumulated to £11.3 million. Since then, this total has grown to reach £16 million.

She was made a Dame by Prince William in May 2022 just a month before her death.
