Dakota Johnson spills all on filming sex scenes in racy chat… after Chris Martin break-up

She quickly became well-known for her portrayal of a young woman entering into a complex, romantic relationship with dominant elements in the popular Fifty Shades of Grey series (which has an erotic theme).

Now Dakota Johnson has given the inside scoop on the filming of a sex scene. 

After parting ways with Chris Martin, the actress expressed her excitement about filming intimate scenes to Amy Poehler, stating she is always “eager” or “looking forward to” shooting the passionate scenes.

In a conversation with Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, the 35-year-old actress shared her secret for getting pumped up before a performance on camera: ‘I’m already fired up, you might say, ready for an energetic rendezvous.’

Dakota discussed his new experience collaborating with an intimacy coordinator for the first time, proposing the use of a Pilates ball in more intimate scenes – a novel idea that was initially unfamiliar to him, as he ultimately opted not to utilize it.

Additionally, she shared insights on the influence her mother, Melanie Griffith, had on her self-confidence, particularly in relation to embracing herself, which has significantly impacted her performance and career in front of the camera.

I recently completed a film a few months back, and for the first time, we had an intimacy coordinator on set. She was fantastic, making the experience truly remarkable. Normally, such scenes can be uncomfortable, but she made it less so, as they’re not intended to be sensual or enjoyable.

She explained a sex scene to Poehler in this manner: ‘In a sex scene, two actors simulate sexual activity without actually engaging in it. They make noises that suggest they are experiencing pleasure, but the actual act is left out.’ She added humorously, ‘It’s all pretend, and you haven’t…well, you know, yet.’

Prior to the scene, Dakota mentioned that some aspects relied on the nature of the character she was portraying.

She noted that the portrayal of a character relies on their perception in the audience’s eyes. Is the character an admired icon, a housewife, lonely, frightened, conservative? These aspects are crucial for character development, which requires specific preparation.

Furthermore, Dakota has always felt a strong need for comfort within herself, a sentiment emphasized by her mother during her upbringing, which has proven beneficial for her acting career.

She expressed, “I want to appreciate and feel at ease with my physical self.” Growing up, her mother instilled a deep sense of pride and love for her body within her. This has been particularly significant in her career as she can express herself through it, making her feel genuinely appreciative, especially so.

Dakota said her mother was ‘honest and open about body stuff’, which included menstruation.  

She mentioned that some of her friends didn’t receive guidance from their mothers on certain topics, and she finds it challenging and unfortunate.

Melanie also emphasized how ‘precious and important’ the act of sex is to Dakota.

Dakota clarified, “She additionally shared her thoughts on intimacy with me, emphasizing its value and significance. Consequently, this topic becomes something I approach fearlessly within my work. I believe it holds importance, especially when handled appropriately in a narrative.

As for the intimacy coordinator, Dakota was surprised by the Pilates ball suggestion.

She explained, “I’ve typically handled simulated sex scenes on my own, but this time with an intimacy coordinator, I asked, ‘Shall we use a Pilates ball for the thrusting motion?’ It was a bit confusing at first, but ultimately, we remained quite distant and didn’t actually use it.

It’s worth noting that Dakota mentioned she’s filmed many sex scenes without a co-actor present since they weren’t in the frame.

She mentioned that often during filming sex scenes, there are instances when she’s alone on screen because she’s the only one in focus. In such cases, she humorously described herself as moving suggestively on her own and making sounds. Alternatively, she spoke of pretending to thrust against a headboard.

In her forthcoming romantic comedy Maternalists, Dakota, known for her role as Anastasia Steele in the steamy Fifty Shades movie series, has garnered popularity.

The movies featured her portraying a young lady involved in a romance with a wealthy businessman, Christian Grey, who had an affinity for bondage (played by Jamie Dornan).

Meanwhile, the actress is now back on the market.  

Last week, it was verified by DailyMail.com that Dakota had parted ways with Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of Coldplay, following nearly eight years as a couple.

In 2017, the pair began their romantic journey, and they became engaged some time after that. However, they’ve chosen to part ways recently.

According to a source, the two have been broken up for quite some time now, but they haven’t formally ended things yet. Dakota has harbored hope that they could reconcile because of her deep affection for him and his children.

‘Their relationship wasn’t a simple split; it was a series of on-again, off-again episodes. Sometimes, being apart made them miss each other more (absence makes the heart grow fonder), and things seemed to work out during those times. However, whenever they reunited, minor issues would accumulate until they realized they weren’t compatible anymore.’

Dakota feels deeply saddened because she won’t get to spend as much time with her children in the future, however, she wants them to understand that she will always be available whenever they need her.
