Daisy Ridley is the right actress to lead the franchise forward
As a gamer who’s been through countless intergalactic adventures and witnessed the rise and fall of many Jedi and Sith, I can confidently say that Daisy Ridley‘s return as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy is nothing short of exhilarating. Her journey since the debut of The Force Awakens has been nothing less than phenomenal, much like her portrayal of the enigmatic character herself.
It’s been revealed that Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, will rejoin the franchise for the next series of movies. In this new trilogy, she’ll be taking on a role similar to the one Alec Guinness held in the original trilogy as Obi-Wan Kenobi. At just 22 years old when she was first cast in the sequel trilogy, Ridley has already built an impressive career. Given her past performance and the promise she brings, she’s a fitting choice to lead the upcoming films.
In “The Force Awakens,” she collaborated with Harrison Ford throughout the entire film. With Ford reprising his role as Han Solo, he served as a significant mentor to the character Rey. Given that the actress is set to star in her own standalone movie and three more following it, it seems logical for her to emulate Ford’s role in the upcoming movies.
The character of Rey had much depth and personality, brought to life by Ridley throughout the new trilogy. The character, as well as the actress herself, came into her own and became confident over the course of three films, which inspired new fans of the franchise. Ridley also has shown great range as an actress in Star Wars and other projects since 2015.
Over the last year, taking on characters like the one in Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea” and the intense role in “Magpie” has shown me just how much I’ve grown as an actor. From my early days as Rey, it’s clear that I’ve gained maturity, expanded my abilities, and stepped into deeper roles.
In the movie titled “Young Woman and the Sea“, Ridley, a British actress, played Trudy Ederle, who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. This role was impactful and motivating for Ridley, potentially bringing her recognition during the awards season. Additionally, Ridley served as a producer in another film called “Magpie“. These recent roles demonstrate the significant strides Ridley has made since she set down her lightsaber in 2019.
2017 saw Ridley stepping into her second significant film role following her Star Wars debut. This time around, she was featured in the movie “Murder on the Orient Express“, helmed by Kenneth Branagh. Branagh expressed confidence in Ridley’s abilities to excel in the role despite working alongside esteemed actors like Dame Judi Dench and Willem Dafoe. During their shared scene, Branagh jokingly suggested that Ridley could effortlessly brandish a lightsaber and strike Dafoe where it would hurt him most.
When Ridley has to draw her lightsaber once more, she’ll be better prepared than ever before, serving as the connection that binds all three film trilogies together.
