Daisy May Cooper reveals why This Country won’t return due to her dramatic 10 stone weight loss and lip filler as she jokes her character would have to have ‘tapeworm’

Daisy May Cooper says her popular show, This Country, isn’t coming back, and she attributes it to her significant weight loss.

The 38-year-old comedian became well-known for her role as Kerry Mucklowe in a BBC sitcom. The show, filmed like a documentary, followed Kerry and her cousin Kurtan (played by her brother Charlie) as they went about their daily lives in Cirencester, in the Cotswolds.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Daisy’s journey, and it’s truly inspiring! After three amazing seasons of her show back in 2020, she’s completely transformed her health and lost an incredible 10 stone. It’s proof that with dedication, amazing things are possible!

The actress jokingly said she couldn’t reprise her role as Kerry unless her character had a tapeworm.

Daisy recently told Radio Times that she and her brother are developing a new, unscripted project. She said it’s still in the early stages of development.

We won’t be able to film in This Country anymore, because I’ve lost a lot of weight and had cosmetic lip fillers. To explain the changes, we’d have to come up with a story about my character, Kerry, having a really strange illness – like a tapeworm and a bee sting!

Daisy has lost a significant amount of weight over the past two years. However, she’s shared that some people have told her she’s become less funny since changing her appearance, and she’s received a lot of messages about it.

The mother of two shared on the BBC podcast ‘How To Be In The Spotlight’ that while she supports body positivity, she was unhappiest when she was at her largest and struggled with a serious eating problem.

I’ve been following Daisy’s story for a while now, and it’s so brave of her to share this. She and Will separated back in July 2021, after almost two years of marriage, and she’s now explained how tough things were. She said she really wasn’t well – she was struggling just to breathe when she was walking, and honestly, she was deeply unhappy. It’s good to see her talking about it.

‘And I’ve had some messages like, ‘Well, now you’ve lost the weight you’re not funny any more.’

I was really upset by the idea that women are expected to be overweight to be considered funny. While I believe everyone deserves to be happy and comfortable in their own body, I personally didn’t feel that way.

Daisy experienced a health concern related to weight loss while filming the second season of her BBC comedy, ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’

Filming was put on hold because Daisy had dramatically changed her appearance, losing a significant amount of weight and getting lip fillers. She jokingly explained that the new series starts just after the last one ends, and in that short time, she’s lost around ten stone and had cosmetic work done.

After seeing the initial footage, I immediately contacted the BBC and suggested we address the fact that Daisy had lip fillers. I asked them to include a disclaimer at the start of the show acknowledging it, and to avoid any judgmental language.

The actor has openly discussed having cosmetic procedures like fillers in the past. More recently, she revealed doctors suggested she stop getting Botox, as they worried it was affecting her ability to express emotions and could potentially hinder her career.

The actress revealed in 2024 that she’d tried facial fillers, but regretted it. She described the result as a puffy, unnatural look – what she called ‘pillow face’ – and said it left her unable to make normal facial expressions.

She shared on a BBC podcast that her agent stopped her from getting further Botox or fillers, worried it would affect her ability to perform.

Oh my god, she actually said it! She admitted she went a little overboard with Botox and fillers, and honestly, it sounds like a nightmare. She was talking about being on ‘The One Show’ and said she ended up with this… ‘pillow face,’ which, okay, relatable queen! She couldn’t even move her face! I mean, I adore her, but hearing that makes me feel so much better about sticking to just admiring her natural beauty. It’s so good she’s being honest about it, even if it was a scary experience!

‘My agent said to me: ‘You’ve got to stop because you’re not going to be able to f*****g act’.

I was so surprised with the results of my Botox that I actually lost the ability to move my eyebrows! I really loved how smooth my forehead looked, so I decided to stop getting those injections. But honestly, I’ve never gone under the knife – no surgeries for me.

I met with a surgeon to discuss a tummy tuck, but I was really put off by the potential complications. He mentioned something called ‘dog ears’ – these little flaps of skin that can happen on the sides – and it worried me so much that I decided against the surgery. I figured I’d just stick with Spanx to get the look I wanted.
