Daddy Yankee claims estranged wife blindsided him by withdrawing $100 MILLION from his company accounts
As a devoted fan who’s followed Daddy Yankee‘s career since his humble beginnings in Puerto Rico, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness mixed with outrage when hearing about this latest turn of events. The man who brought us iconic hits like “Gasolina” and “Despacito,” has been allegedly betrayed by his own family.
Daddy Yankee alleges that his separated spouse, Mireddys González, unauthorizedly took out $100 million from two of his musical businesses without his consent.
47-year-old Reggaeton artist claimed in court documents filed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, that González illegally acquired $80 million and $20 million from El Cartel Records and Los Cangris.
According to papers submitted last Friday and examined by Billboard, the Gasolina singer stated that the departure of Los Cangris violated ‘the warnings given and explicit demands to halt any management or action that could jeopardize the company’s financial stability.’
The Grammy-nominated rapper, identified as Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, portrayed the deal as ‘desperate’ and alleged it to be a component of a broader scheme of financial impropriety by González, which she engaged in with her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos.
Daddy Yankee’s legal team explained to the court that it is clear now why she had been trying to conceal from him, and that included not sharing details about the withdrawals and money transactions she and her sister were making without his knowledge.
On a Friday, the artist behind Despacito filed two lawsuits, accusing his ex-spouse, her sister, and El Cartel Records of certain allegations.
Daddy Yankee established El Cartel Records, with González serving as the CEO, while his/her sibling handles the secretarial-treasury duties.
Daddy Yankee expressed that at present, he has no direct involvement, encroachment, or knowledge regarding the musical branch he founded, of which he holds ownership rights.
Daddy Yankee asked the court to immediately remove all administrative authority from González and González Castellanos regarding El Cartel Records, effective immediately.
Additionally, he is requesting the court to compel González and González Castellanos to disclose the details and records they unlawfully kept hidden, in relation to their business transactions.
Daddy Yankee stated that the actions carried out by González and González Castellanos have led to a careless and harmful work performance for the company, as they aimed to increase their influence within it.
In their time at the record company, González and González Castellanos were criticized for providing an incorrect account of their actions, neglecting proper corporate procedures, and making financially reckless choices, according to statements made by Daddy Yankee in legal documents.
Daddy Yankee testified before the court that González managed a deal involving a third party in October, during which the rights to Daddy Yankee’s material were sold to Concord for a $217 million sum he considered ‘unfairly low,’ ‘out of proportion,’ and ‘significantly undervalued.’
Daddy Yankee stated that González deliberately withheld information from him. Specifically, he wasn’t given a copy of all the contract documents, and to this day, he is unaware of the full extent of the deal, the specifics of what was or was not sold, or any limitations on his ability to use his musical works.
Daddy Yankee stated in official papers that he signed the agreement upon the recommendation of a third party and the defendants.
Daddy Yankee testified in court that González and González Castellanos took out a combined sum of $100 million from El Cartel Records after he had removed their authority to make decisions for the company. He also cautioned them that they were not allowed to conduct any transactions on behalf of the company following this action.
Daddy Yankee’s legal team claimed that an unlawful bank transfer occurred, taking approximately $80 million out of the corporation’s account in the initial transaction of two such transfers.
Earlier this month, the pair made a joint announcement that they were going separate ways. He later expressed his thoughts about the separation through Instagram Stories on December 2nd.
Speaking with sincerity and deep respect, he shared some significant updates about his personal life. After over twenty years of marriage, numerous attempts to preserve our union, and following receipt of a divorce petition, his legal team is now responding, as reported by Mireddys.
In 1995, they tied the knot, but later drifted apart; this pair now has two children: a 28-year-old daughter named Jesaaelys and a 26-year-old son called Jeremy. He also fathered a daughter named Yamilet from a past relationship.
As I shared with Billboard in 2021, my partner holds the reins in our business. She’s been the one calling the shots from day one.
