Cynthia Erivo signs on to new Wicked project – here’s all the details to know

Cynthia Erivo is set to narrate a new audiobook edition of Wicked.

1995’s Gregory Maguire novel, titled “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West“, served as the basis for a successful stage musical and subsequent two-part film series. In these adaptations, Erivo portrays Elphaba.

As reported by Variety, the actor has been confirmed to read an audiobook version of the popular book that will be released starting from 1st July.

She expressed enthusiasm about sharing this extraordinary tale in a fresh format for the audience, and she’s confident that it will touch them just as deeply as it does her.

The book stands out for its somber tone compared to the musical and film adaptations, focusing on the life story of the character known as Elphaba, who is also recognized as the Wicked Witch of the West.

Back in November, I was thrilled to witness the big-screen debut of this movie, which later racked up an impressive ten Oscar nods! Among them were nominations for Cynthia Erivo as Best Actress and Ariana Grande for her supporting role as Glinda. What a stellar cast!

Part two, which is officially titled Wicked: For Good, is expected to hit cinemas this November.

The Musical’ expressed her surprise and excitement, saying: “When I saw the rumor, it seemed absolutely wild and it went wild on social media with everyone asking me. Honestly, that would be amazing.

I absolutely adore the musical ‘Wicked’, and I had the pleasure of watching it with my family for the first time. I’m also a huge fan of Jon M. Chu’s creative endeavors, as well as Ariana Grande and Cynthia – it would be fantastic if they collaborated on a project together.

Wicked: For Good will release in cinemas on 21 November.
