Cynthia Erivo plays peacemaker after young fan ‘taken to the ground’ by security while waiting to meet her after performance of her one-woman show ‘Dracula’

After a security guard brought a young fan to the ground following a performance of her play, Dracula, Cynthia Erivo intervened to de-escalate the situation.

The actress known for her role in Wicked was spotted comforting a fan who was waiting for her outside the Noel Coward Theatre in London earlier this month. The fan had been anticipating a meeting with the star after a performance of her one-woman adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel.

I saw this incredibly touching moment online with Cynthia Erivo and a fan named Lewis. He was really shaken up after an incident, and she was so quick to comfort him, telling him to just breathe. He explained to her that he wasn’t injured, but actually attacked, and emphasized that he’s not a violent person and would never intentionally hurt anyone. It was lovely to see her respond with such kindness and empathy.

She tried several times to de-escalate things after the security guard reportedly left.

She told Lewis: ‘I’m so sorry that happened to you. I can see you are hurt, I understand.’

He explained it wasn’t my fault and apologized for the situation, calling it upsetting and awful.

‘I’m a good person, and I don’t get angry like that.’

The Metropolitan Police are now understood to be investigating the incident.

The Noel Coward Theatre, managed by Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, stated that the security guard was not on their payroll.

Someone with knowledge of the theatre said the security guard was likely working with someone else, and the whole incident was terrible.

The security guard likely intervened because they thought a situation might escalate, but the incident is currently under review.

‘As for Cynthia, she is a very warm and kind person. She hated something like that happening.

She’s really enjoying playing Dracula and wants the audience to enjoy it too. So, when she noticed a fight breaking out and saw a young man getting upset, she tried her best to de-escalate the situation and calm everyone down.

Cynthia Erivo performs 23 different roles in the show, starting February 4th and concluding on May 31st.

She has won rave reviews for her performance.

A representative for Delfont Mackintosh Theatres said they couldn’t discuss the situation because the police are still investigating.
