Cyndi Lauper fans fiercely defend 71-year-old singer over ’embarrassing’ viral performance
Supporters of Cyndi Lauper vigorously came to her defense when a video of her latest performance spread online, causing controversy.
A post from an account on X has just released a clip of the 71-year-old ’80s pop-rock sensation performing during her final tour, titled “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell,” marking her first significant tour in over a decade.
The video displayed the songwriter, who encountered significant audio issues during her Glastonbury performance in June of last year, sporting teal-colored hair and donning a shimmering silver attire. She was energetically dancing about while performing her 1985 hit, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough.
The title of the post was questioning what might have changed with Cyndi Lauper, and another individual responded by suggesting that since she is now 71 years old, it would be appropriate for her to retire, expressing that continuing to perform may be detrimental to her image.
However, many fans took to Cyndi’s defense.
Music critic and internet personality Anthony Fantano penned: ‘She released numerous chart-toppers, produced many albums, grew older, and built a fan base that she continues to entertain for decades. Can you achieve the same feat? Is being unintelligent on Twitter destined for the same level of endurance?’

In response to the query about the singer’s situation, a fan replied, “It’s the same fate that awaits you all – growing old.
‘Dude, she’s 71 years old. I hope I’m hopping around like that at 71,’ yet another chimed in.
‘She’s 71 years old? It’s not realistic to expect her to look and sound the same as when she was 32, but she certainly doesn’t disappoint. I think she looks fantastic, and her voice is quite impressive.’
As a lifestyle expert, I found myself standing shoulder-to-shoulder with countless others who passionately defended Cyndi against the unjustified misogyny and ageism she faced. Together, we made it clear that such behavior is unacceptable in our community.
1. “She has achieved a lot in her profession, and she genuinely enjoys her work. It seems unnecessary for everyone to constantly criticize or express negativity towards others.”
Here’s another option:
2. “Her career has been impressive, and she really enjoys her line of work. Why do people always feel the need to be so critical and bring others down?”
She has every right to age gracefully. Unfortunately, our poor economy might prevent her from retiring. Just like me, she’s accumulated a few extra pounds and more years since I last saw her perform in the mid-80s. Yet, even elderly women can dance energetically.
‘It might seem like Minnie Castevet is singing Rod Stewart in a karaoke setting, but it’s actually Cyndi Lauper who deserves a more respectful commentary than mere sexism and ageism, given her esteemed career and abilities.’
Hey there, could you please be more considerate? Despite being 71 years old, Cyndi continues to move marvelously and sing with vigor. It takes immense courage to persist through life as it gets tougher with age, and Cyndi certainly embodies that strength. Truly, she’s a legend! I adore her!!
Aging is what it’s called. At this stage, I wouldn’t pay to watch her performance, but I must give her credit for making an effort. Instead of residing passively in a nursing home, she continues to move and be active. The act of singing keeps her mind sharp. So let’s appreciate her for staying lively.
She appears to have grown older, but she seems to be holding up well so far. She is the same age as my mother. My mother, however, doesn’t perform on stages anymore. People do grow old, after all. So what’s your point here?
‘She’s 71 and doing what she loves. Try not being judgemental for once. She isn’t bothering you.’
The Farewell Tour of Cyndi’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun kicked off in Montreal, Canada on October 18, 2024. This tour will wrap up on February 28, 2025, in the city of Paris, France.
Lauper voiced her wish to organize a final tour as long as she remains fit and well, so that she can adequately express gratitude towards her fans for their unwavering support.

2013 marked an extraordinary achievement for Cyndi Lauper, as she became the trailblazer to independently secure the Tony Award for Best Original Score in the category of Broadway musicals, with her creation being none other than “Kinky Boots.
She has a 28-year-old son named Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper who she shares with her husband David Thornton, who is 71 years old and they have been married since 1991.
On February 7, Dex was apprehended following a police search in the vicinity of 135 W. 112th St., where they allegedly discovered him with a firearm and illicit substances. The arrest occurred close to the site where a 24-year-old man had been shot in his leg, near an apartment building.
Thornton was previously pictured bailing Dex out of jail with $20,000 in cash.
Dex allegedly name-dropped his famous mom during his arrest on gun charges.
During the arrest after a shooting in Harlem, the suspect, believed to be a “nepo baby” (a term referring to celebrities whose careers are often attributed to their family connections), reportedly shared details about his famous mother and her successful song with the police officers, as stated in court records that have been obtained by The New York Post.
‘I was raised, it’s known that my mother is Cyndi Lauper, who famously sang ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun.’
As a lifestyle advisor, I must share some personal insights. You may recall an incident from last year where I found myself in a predicament involving the theft of a Mercedes car at a fellow rapper’s memorial service. Fortunately, I managed to avoid serving time behind bars. However, this isn’t my first encounter with legal entanglements.
