Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2 Features a Cool Balatro Crossover Questline

Oh boy, as a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of both Cyberpunk 2077 and Balatro, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stumbled upon a dream crossover event! The inclusion of the Balatro questline in Cyberpunk 2077 is nothing short of genius. It’s like CD Projekt RED read my gaming diary and decided to make my wildest dreams a reality.

After the surprise rollout of Update 2.2 this week, the game Cyberpunk 2077 has added an exciting mini-questline called “Balatro”. In this quest, players trace graffiti tags of the roguelike deckbuilder’s jester to uncover a hidden secret that we won’t reveal here.

According to CD Projekt RED Global PR Director Radek Grabowski’s post on Twitter/X, it was CDPR Quest Designer Maria Mazur who brought developer LocalThunk’s unique poker-themed card game, Balatro, into Cyberpunk 2077. Grabowski had inquired about the possibility of integrating the card game from Balatro into Cyberpunk 2077, and thanks to Maria Mazur’s efforts, this idea became a reality with the release of Update 2.2. Great job, Maria!

In Update 2.2 of the game Cyberpunk 2077, you can explore the Balatro questline. For more details on this intriguing deckbuilder, you might want to read Josh’s article here. Interestingly, Balatro comes with two ‘Friends of Jimbo’ DLC packs of cards, which include characters from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a nice touch that CDPR acknowledges these connections. Plus, there’s merchandise combining Cyberpunk 2077 with Balatro up for sale.

Previously, I posed a question to the Quest Design team at CDPR: “Did you enjoy the Cyberpunk cards in Balatro? What if there were Balatro cards in Cyberpunk 2077?” Thanks to the creative talent of Maria Mazur, we now have the Balatro quest included in Update 2.2. 🃏 Fantastic job, Maria! 👏
