CD Projekt Red successfully transformed Cyberpunk 2077 from a troubled release into one of the most highly-regarded RPGs of the past ten years – and possibly of all time.
It’s impossible to say exactly what the long-term consequences of that rushed fix will be, but it likely meant the developer had to abandon a lot of planned content to focus on resolving the issues players were experiencing.
While this is a perfectly reasonable and understandable choice, it does make us wonder about what could have been. The Phantom Liberty DLC proved how fantastic new stories in Night City could be, and it seems that wasn’t the only expansion the developers had in mind for the game.
Artemis II? If You Want The Moon, Try Cyberpunk 2077
If you’ve been following the news, you’ll know humans are preparing to return to the Moon with the Artemis 2 mission. It’s a thrilling scientific achievement that most of us will only witness through media. Interestingly, it seems we might have been able to experience it virtually through the game Cyberpunk 2077, if the developers hadn’t changed their initial plans.
I just watched this crazy deep dive on YouTube by ParkerEnterprise about a cancelled DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 – it would have let you go to the moon! They showed off footage of a drivable lunar rover and this massive moon base. It’s seriously mind-blowing to see what could have been. Apparently, some of those models actually ended up inspiring the stuff we saw in Cyberpunk Edgerunners, which is kinda cool, but still… man, a moon mission in Night City would have been insane.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Leaked Moon DLC Sounds Awesome
Someone posted the video on Reddit with the game’s fans, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. People were really impressed, though many wished they could actually play the game themselves.
One player expressed disappointment that the game never received a second expansion, stating, “It still stings.” They believe that if a new expansion is being made for The Witcher 3, then Cyberpunk deserves to receive the previously promised Moon DLC as well.
Someone suggested it’s still possible to complete the game, and even if the developers don’t want to alter the original, they could include all the removed content in an online mode rather than discarding it completely, with a hopeful tone.
It’s unlikely we’ll ever see a playable Moon expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. All that remains are glimpses of what the developers had planned. However, CD Projekt Red is currently developing the sequel, so there’s a possibility we might explore the Moon in that game instead.
