Although the roots of cyberpunk science fiction stretch back to the 1960s and 70s, it’s become popular with today’s audiences thanks to films like Blade Runner and, more recently, the game Cyberpunk 2077. This genre explores a world where technology like artificial intelligence and cybernetic implants are common, while society is crumbling, and it has fascinated people for decades.
As we’ve discussed, both the tabletop RPG Cyberpunk RED and the video game Cyberpunk 2077 brought renewed interest to the cyberpunk genre. While we eagerly await CD Projekt RED’s sequel, I’ve put together a list of ten games that capture the same gritty setting, atmosphere, and storytelling we enjoyed in Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2020. If you’re looking for immersive experiences filled with neon lights and dystopian themes, these games should fit the bill. Even though some are still in development, and the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel isn’t expected until at least 2030, these titles will be perfect to play in the meantime.
10. No Law
Currently in development, No Law is a promising cyberpunk game attracting a lot of attention. The game takes place in Port Desire, a dangerous city where getting what you want isn’t easy. You play as Grey Harker, a former soldier who just wants peace after a near-fatal injury. But in this immersive, story-driven, first-person shooter, trouble finds him, and he’s forced back into action to reclaim what’s been taken from him.
Currently without a release date, No Law, developed by Neon Giant, is a cyberpunk action game where you play as a vigilante in a futuristic city. If you enjoy fast-paced shooters with a noir style and a focus on player agency, be sure to add it to your wishlist.
9. Replaced
Launching on April 14, 2026, Replaced is a thrilling cyberpunk adventure set in an alternate 1980s America devastated by a nuclear disaster. You play as R.E.A.C.H., an artificial intelligence inhabiting a human body, and must navigate a world controlled by the powerful Phoenix Corporation. This narrative-focused 2.5D platformer blends beautiful, neon-lit visuals with fast-paced action. Featuring striking pixel art and the vibrant colors typical of the cyberpunk style, Replaced promises to be a hidden gem.
8. Nivalis
I’ve been excited about Nivalis ever since I first saw it – it’s a cyberpunk game from ION Lands that’s been on my wishlist for ages! This upcoming life simulation is set in a huge, futuristic city that reaches from the sea to the sky. You’ll be able to build and run businesses like restaurants and nightclubs, make connections with others (both good and bad), design your own apartment, and even go fishing if you have the time. Basically, Nivalis is your city to take over. As you grow your business, find romance, and earn money, you’ll discover that the city holds secrets beneath the surface.
7. Steel Soul Shaper
With its fresh approach to the genre, Steel Soul Shaper is a story-focused simulation game where you play as a talented cyberware surgeon. You’ll run your own workshop in a gritty cyberpunk city, fixing and upgrading your clients’ cybernetics. As you work, you’ll learn their stories, discover their secrets, and potentially influence their fates – and your own – in a world where opportunity favors the resourceful. Having recently enjoyed D1AL-OGUE, I wanted to highlight Steel Soul Shaper as another example of the diverse possibilities within the cyberpunk genre.
6. Midnight Wave
If you enjoy tactical RPGs with a side-scrolling perspective, be sure to check out Midnight Wave. Created by Andrew Walthall, this game blends samurai themes with a cyberpunk world, offering deep customization, meaningful story choices, and unique gameplay. Drawing inspiration from classics like Fire Emblem and Super Smash Brothers, Midnight Wave is a fresh take on the genre, set in a futuristic world of katanas, powerful corporations, and elemental abilities.
5. ReBlade: The Death Spiral
In the fast-paced action RPG ReBlade: The Death Spiral, you play as a Synthetic—a being marked for destruction and caught in a repeating cycle. Set in a cyberpunk world drawing inspiration from Chinese mythology, you’ll fight through mechanical enemies using customizable weapons, chips, and upgrades with each reset. Every run brings you closer to uncovering the secrets of the Synthetics and their fate. Battle your way through this cyber-mythic city, learn the flow of combat, overcome challenging trials, and ultimately defy your destiny.
4. Syncblade
Syncblade is a new rhythm game where you play as Akemi, a samurai who fights zombies with the power of music. Using a sophisticated music analysis system, you can battle to the beat of any song – even your own custom tracks, which you can share with players worldwide. Syncblade offers a fresh take on the cyberpunk style, letting you import your favorite music, grab your katana, and stylishly defeat hordes of zombies.
3. Supreme Experiment
In Supreme Experiment, humanity has vanished, and machines have evolved into a new dominant species. These machines now have their own gods and rule the world, but you’ll decide if there’s anything left worth saving. You’ll need to survive, fight, and explore a shattered world, traveling through colossal Spire Cities – towers that stretch eight kilometers into the sky, above poisonous clouds. These cloud cities are humanity’s last refuge, and you must uncover why resources have suddenly stopped flowing. However, venturing into the world below will reveal far more than you expect, as the surface is now controlled by intelligent machines. With breathtaking graphics and a uniquely dystopian setting, Supreme Experiment is a promising game you’ll want to keep an eye on.
2. All Our Broken Parts
In All Our Broken Parts, you play as a robot doctor in a city where robots and humans coexist. A strange illness is affecting the robot population, and it’s your job to figure out what’s causing it. You’ll diagnose and repair your patients, learning their personal stories, hidden secrets, and what brought them to where they are. This visually beautiful, story-focused puzzle game offers a unique look into a world where every robot and human has their own individual journey – it’s a truly captivating experience.
1. SlashZero
Finally, we have SlashZero, a fast-paced 3D action platformer with roguelike elements. You play as a Timehacker in a cyberpunk world, traveling through different timelines to uncover the truth and defeat the Lord of the Void. It combines skillful combat with strategic thinking, and lets you customize how you play. You’ll race across branching timelines to find and defeat HIEROS, ultimately saving the world. If you enjoy roguelikes like Hades, this upcoming cyberpunk platformer is a great way to finish off our list.
