Gamers get a major announcement about a sequel, but it comes with a major caveat.
CD Projekt Red, the developers of Cyberpunk 2077, recently shared updates on a potential sequel in their latest financial report. They’ve confirmed a second Cyberpunk game is in the works, but fans shouldn’t expect it to be released before 2028.
Cyberpunk 2 Is Still Years Away
As a big fan, I was really excited to hear that the team working on Cyberpunk 2 has grown! They now have 135 full-time employees dedicated to the game, which is up from 116 back in July. The main CD Projekt Red crew in Poland is still helping out, but it sounds like the new team in Boston is now taking the lead on developing the sequel. That’s awesome to hear!
The latest financial report from CD Projekt Red revealed exciting plans for the future of Cyberpunk. The company expects its Boston team to begin a significant hiring push over the next two years, aiming to build a development team of 300 to 400 people by the end of 2027 to work on the Cyberpunk sequel.
So, Cyberpunk 2077… it’s based on this really cool tabletop RPG series created by Mike Pondsmith. Everyone was hyped for it, but the launch was… rough, to say the least. There were a ton of delays, and when it finally came out, it was just full of bugs and performance problems, especially for people playing on consoles. It was a shame, because the core game had a lot of potential.
Despite its problems, Cyberpunk 2077 quickly became incredibly popular, with over a million people playing at the same time shortly after it launched. While critics initially had mixed feelings, opinions of the game have generally become more positive over time.
Honestly, Cyberpunk 2077 is stunning – the graphics are incredible, and the gameplay is seriously gripping. Right now, it’s sitting at an 86 out of 100 on Metacritic, which is based on 92 reviews from critics. Not bad, right?
Despite being released five years ago, players are still enjoying Cyberpunk 2077, and the game continues to receive updates, with the latest arriving in July. Many were surprised by this, as they thought the only significant addition to the game would be the Phantom Liberty expansion, which came out in 2023.
As a huge fan of Cyberpunk 2077, I was so excited to see all the new stuff they added! It wasn’t just little tweaks either – they really expanded the world with new cars, ways to travel, and completely new quests to dive into. One of the best parts, for me, was the addition of the train system in Night City. It made getting around feel so much more realistic and helped me really explore every corner of that incredible futuristic city.
The latest update includes a photo mode, and fixes many of the bugs and glitches that remained in Cyberpunk 2077 even five years after it first came out.
