Collegiate Sports Management Group (CSMG) and EsportsU are teaming up with Cisco to create a new certification program for esports pit crews at the college level. Cisco is also the main corporate sponsor for the May Madness 2026 Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup (CECC) event.

EsportsU, CSMG, and Cisco create career pathways in collegiate esports
The “Cisco Pit Crew” program helps students launch careers in esports by giving them hands-on experience, training, and industry certifications. It links Cisco’s networking courses to the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of Formula One racing, emphasizing accuracy and cutting-edge technology.
According to Angela Bernhard Thomas, Chief Esports Officer at EsportsU, gaming and esports are rapidly changing colleges and universities. Schools are investing in esports by constructing arenas, developing related degree programs, and offering scholarships. The Cisco Pit Crew builds on this trend by providing students with technical skills an opportunity to work behind the scenes – a crucial role that complements players and coaches.
CSMG is choosing 12 schools to create special “Cisco Pit Crews.” Students at these schools will receive training and access to Cisco Networking Academy classes, plus a program focused on esports setups. Completing the program will earn students a Cisco Pit Crew certification.
CECC May Madness 2026 features F1 simulations and esports industry leaders
During CECC May Madness 2026, attendees can experience the Cisco Pit Crew, featuring Formula 1-style simulations. These simulations will challenge students to demonstrate their abilities in networking, security, and managing network speed and delays.
CECC May Madness 2026 will also feature exciting content from Riot Games and League of Legends. Alongside this, we’ll have the Cisco Pit Crew Awards and a special reception for Esports Directors.
