CS2 caster zews ‘fired’ from PGL Bucharest broadcast after opening day
No official reason has been given regarding zews’ removal from the event.
The brief tenure of Wilton “zews” Prado, a former CS:2 coach from Brazil, in the commentator’s role seems to have come to an end prematurely. Reports suggest that he was let go from his debut position at PGL Bucharest after only one matchday.
Zews, teaming up with Anders Blume again for top-tier CS2 commentary, didn’t provide any specific explanation as to why he was replaced – neither did tournament organizer PGL, who hasn’t disclosed the reason behind the dismissal of the Brazilian commentator yet.
“Community wasn’t ready”: zews out of PGL Bucharest broadcast
On April 7th, Zews himself announced via a post on X/Twitter that he was no longer tied to his PGL Bucharest responsibilities. In response to a video showcasing his commentary during the Aurora-paiN series, he expressed his intention to share more content once he figures out the right way to communicate it.
He mentioned that the community wasn’t yet prepared to proceed with the official work, as he had been ‘let go’ for the tasks at hand, but everything is fine in his perspective. He expressed optimism for a successful tournament outcome and thanked for the acknowledgement.
GO and discussing personal experiences.” He further explained, “I’m just unusual, and that’s alright. There’s no need for people to overthink it; it is what it is, and that’s okay.
In this piece, we attempted to contact PGL for their perspective, but they had not responded by the time the article went live.
Feedback on Zews’ commentary during Day 1 of PGL Bucharest was varied. Some fans appreciated the insightful analysis and expertise he provided as a former coach, yet others pointed out that his inexperience seemed to disrupt the smooth progression of matches, particularly in combination with co-caster Anders.
Others felt that he was not yet proficient enough for live sports commentary, tending to delve excessively into personal stories rather than focusing on the game itself. According to one spectator, his inexperience did not warrant him keeping the position.
In June 2024, Zews completed a brief second tenure as coach for Team Liquid CS2. Prior to this role, the esteemed coach, who was part of the illustrious Luminosity and SK Gaming Major championship teams, had been moving between various American squads including MIBR, Evil Geniuses, and Fluxo.
After leaving Liquid, zews has frequently been a guest on various CS2 podcasts where he discusses extensively about his challenging period with the team and his career in sports psychology.
There’s still some uncertainty about whether Anders will handle the commentary for the upcoming matches by himself, or if another commentator will join him. The action at PGL Bucharest resumes today with round two matches ongoing and streaming live right now.
