CS pros, fans blast state of cheating in Premier matchmaking: ‘Where is the logic?’
Cheating is taking its toll on high-ranked CS2 players.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to admit, my faith in Valve’s anti-cheat measures for CS2 has taken a hit during this latest season of Premier. Some top pros and gaming influencers have been vocal about their disappointment with the game’s state over the past month.
Approaching a month since the release of Season 2, there’s widespread agreement that the quality of matches in the Premier league has hit an all-time low, primarily due to a surge in cheating players. It seems that Valve is struggling to address this issue effectively.
“Fed up with everything”: CS2 community demands action against rampant Premier cheating
The demand for change originates directly from leadership, with prominent figures in the competitive CS2 community and well-known streamers expressing frustration towards Valve due to Premier slipping significantly. Veteran player and coach Martin “STYKO” Styk voiced his concern on X/Twitter last week, stating that during a 30-match period, more than 80% of the games contained cheating.
In his words, there was no attempt to conceal the cheating; on the contrary, some players were openly hacking and spoiling the gaming experience for other top-tier competitors. He questioned, “Where is the sense in this?” He further elaborated that after successfully booting out a few cheaters, Valve would impose a competitive ban for allegedly kicking too many teammates.
In his comments, CS2 commentator Vince Hill expressed sentiments similar to STYKO’s. He finds the competition in Premier overwhelming once a player surpasses 20,000 ratings, and he describes it as “uncontrollable” when a player exceeds 25,000 ratings.
Additionally, he highlights a particularly detrimental outcome of dishonesty. What I’ve observed is the impact it has on individuals’ mindset, causing them to become accustomed to deceit and, in turn, develop a skepticism that everyone might be untrustworthy.
“Imagine kicking cheaters but you are the one to get banned instead of them?”

Initially, you were hesitant but now you’re certain. It’s an ailment that sneaks up subtly, and I can empathize with your stance. He further explains that teammates often prematurely surrender the game when the suspected opponent might not even be cheating. This situation takes a toll on everyone involved.
In a statement made on February 16th, well-known CS2 streamer and personality, MrTweeday, expressed that recent negative experiences have left him feeling overwhelmed to the extent of withdrawing from streaming. He explained that these feelings led to an unexpected exit during one of his streams, which he referred to as a “rage quit.” He went on to mention that cheaters and individuals who stream-snatch (stream-snipers) have negatively impacted his content, thus affecting his income.
Additionally, he shares the sentiment that constant encounters with cheaters within the top-tier Premier community have left us all skeptical and questioning even the most routine plays. It seems like there’s a wave of suspicion sweeping through my matches lately as people accuse each other of cheating.
Cheaters take upper hand in perennial war against Valve in CS2
The debate over cheating in CS2 has become intense as a rift between different skill levels has arisen. Some players in the lower Premier skill tier argue that it’s not a significant problem, claiming they rarely encounter cheaters within the 10,000 to 15,000 range, which is similar to the average skill level in CS2.
In a CS2 Reddit discussion, a user commented, “If you’re around 15,000 with a decent Trust Factor, like me, the games are enjoyable.” They explained, “Cheaters move up the ranks too quickly until they can’t advance any further. Since the player base at those higher ranks is quite small, it makes sense that players there would encounter cheaters more frequently.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that the ongoing battle between game developers like Valve (and others in the industry) and cheaters is an ever-evolving war of wits. With each VAC ban wave we see, it seems like the cheat providers are quick to adapt to our security measures and find loopholes to exploit. It’s a constant game of cat and mouse, with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
For a while now, there’s been no communication from Valve regarding the issue at hand. The last time they issued a ban wave was several months ago, and they haven’t mentioned anything about another one coming up soon. As more time passes without resolution, an increasing number of players are leaving the platform, either for alternative services such as FACEIT or moving on to different games altogether.
