Crystal of Atlan First Impression: Nuverse’s next big sensation

Story Highlights

  • Even in its beta test phase, Crystal of Atlan delivers an engaging and highly replayable experience.
  • The visuals are stunning, and the game runs smoothly on low-end devices, though this comes at the expense of some visual detail.
  • It provides an excellent social experience through its diverse game modes, allowing you to make friends, team up, and have fun together.

During the recently concluded PRECURSOR TEST, which served as a Closed Beta for Nuverse’s latest action MMORPG title, Crystal of Atlan, I had the opportunity to play. This game, tested previously on Android devices in certain regions in December 2023, demonstrated remarkable potential, and I was lucky enough to be part of its second round of testing.

First Impressions: Unveiled at G-STAR 2023 alongside a collection of mobile games, Crystal of Atlan has been creating quite a stir due to its stunning graphics, engrossing narrative, and engaging MMORPG mechanics. Here’s what I thought during my initial playthrough.

At G-STAR 2023, Crystal of Atlan was one of several mobile games presented. Since then, it has gained attention due to its impressive visuals, intriguing storyline, and thrilling MMORPG gameplay. Here’s my take after my first encounter with the game.

Crystal of Atlan holds the potential to be a big name in the gaming market

I thought the game would be impressive, but I didn’t foresee it being this extraordinary. As soon as you pick a character from one of the four classes and start with the initial chapter, “Witch of Decay“, the game grabs your attention right away, causing you to lose track of time.

I firmly think that this game holds a lot of promise, provided that the developers continue to uphold its quality and avoid any mishaps during its official release. Throughout the beta testing phase, I was given the opportunity to delve into the game’s captivating narrative via the main chapters, enjoy its thrilling combat mechanics, appreciate the finesse in its attack sequences and skills, among other aspects.

In certain aspects, I discovered it superior to games such as Genshin Impact, primarily due to the ability to customize a wider range of skills for each character. Initially, I chose the Puppeteer class, but was captivated by the Musketeer’s impressive attacks and animations. However, upon reaching level 15, I opted to switch to the Bounty Hunter class.

I thoroughly enjoyed my role as a Bounty Hunter in the game, embarking on diverse missions, interacting with other players, and even taking up additional tasks. What’s more, you can secure substantial rewards by accomplishing the ancillary tasks tied to the primary Chapters. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised that the game, featuring stunning visuals and graphics, ran flawlessly on my budget phone.

We’ll likely see even superior optimization once it’s officially released. Furthermore, you can switch between three different camera angles, such as a Role-Playing Game (RPG) in 3D, an Action game (ACT) in 3D, and a 2.5D perspective. I personally opted for the ACT viewpoint.

All in all, I found myself thoroughly entertained by the game’s meticulously crafted environment, charming anime-inspired characters, adorable pets, freedom to traverse various locales, culinary pursuits, cozy home life, engaging soundtracks from the Gramophone, character personalization options, captivating narrative with cinematic scenes, and thrilling real-time combat. It’s incredibly enjoyable to make use of all the abilities, evade powerful assaults, and execute combos against adversaries.

The variety of game modes offers an engaging gameplay experience

The game provides a rich gaming journey through its variety of playstyles, such as Adventure, Cooperative Battle, Special Event, Ranked Duel, and Challenge modes at present. In the adventure section, you’ll find the main storylines and side missions that are both entertaining and offer multiple replay opportunities.

Fortunately, I got to collaborate with two genuine gaming companions in the Challenge Mode. This is an exciting phase where we battle through successive enemy groups spread across diverse locations. Working together, we skillfully utilized our abilities, synergized, and cooperated, making it a thrilling team experience.

As I delved into the European server, I managed to strike up friendships with a few Germans, albeit my German skills were far from fluent; thank you Duolingo! Regrettably, despite waiting for quite a while in the queue, we couldn’t seem to find a match in Ranked. This isn’t surprising given it was still in beta testing, and not everyone was immediately diving in headfirst.

Despite this, the social aspect in this game is exceptional since it allows you to meet real players across a vast landscape, converse with them, and collaborate to conquer dungeons, whether it’s for Competitive Matches, Test of Skills, or Team Battles. To be honest, I am eagerly anticipating the complete launch of this game so I can immerse myself in Competitive matches and enjoy the rivalry they offer.

Final Thoughts

To summarize, I found Crystal of Atlan quite impressive during my initial playthrough. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, it offers stunning graphics and character designs, an engaging narrative and quests, complex dungeons, and an entertaining battle system boasting multiple abilities.

As a gamer, I’m blown away by how stunning this beta version looks! I can hardly wait to delve deeper into its offerings once it’s officially released. Fingers crossed that they fine-tune the game even further to make it run smoothly on lower-spec machines too.
