Crysis 4 ‘On Hold’ as Developer Crytek Lays Off 15% of its Workforce

It’s been twelve years since the release of Crysis 3, and it appears we may need to be patient for Crysis 4. The developer, Crytek, has shared that the game is temporarily halted due to “adverse market conditions.

In their official communication, they expressed that, much like many others in our field, we haven’t been able to escape the challenging and adverse economic trends affecting our industry over the past few years. These conditions have unfortunately necessitated job cuts, resulting in a substantial number of our around 400 employees being let go.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce today the unfortunate necessity of letting go approximately 15% of our workforce, which totals about 60 employees. This difficult decision impacts both our development teams and shared services departments. We understand the significant impact this will have on our dedicated staff, whose contributions we greatly value. In an effort to reallocate resources, we’ve decided to postpone the production of the next Crysis game until Q3 2024. As a result, we are directing developers towards our other project, Hunt: Showdown 1896.

The studio acknowledges that, despite the ongoing expansion of Hunt: Showdown 1896, it’s finding it difficult to carry on as usual while maintaining financial stability. The recent job cuts are a result of cost-cutting measures and reductions in operating expenses at Crytek. All impacted employees will receive severance pay and assistance in their job search.

Well, as a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about when we might get our hands on Crysis 4. However, it seems that even the crystal ball can’t predict this one just yet. Regrettably, Crytek, like many other studios, has faced the harsh reality of layoffs. Recently, BioWare, a studio I deeply admire, has been hit hard by staff reductions after their latest release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Now, they’re down to around 100 employees. Here’s hoping for better days ahead for our favorite game developers!
