Crypt Custodian Has You Cleaning Up the Afterlife for All Eternity as a Dead Cat This August

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for nostalgia-inducing titles that pay homage to my childhood favorites, the announcement of Crypt Custodian has me purring with excitement! The top-down Zelda-inspired metroidvania genre is one I hold dear, and the prospect of exploring the Afterlife’s Palace as a dead cat named Pluto is too enticing to resist.

In a announcement made by developers at Top Hat Studios and creator Kyle Thompson, it has been revealed that the game “Crypt Custodian”, reminiscent of Zelda-style metroidvania games, will be released towards the end of August.

As the spirited ghost cat Pluto, you’ll navigate through the grand palace of the Afterlife. However, due to some mischief, you are exiled and given a lifetime sentence to work as the cleaner of the afterworld, overseen by the Afterlife Guardian, Kendra.

In this adventure, you’ll encounter spectral spirits and fierce creatures as you traverse a vast, peculiar world teeming with enigmatic beings, concealed mysteries, and numerous hidden corners waiting to be discovered. The further you progress, the nearer you’ll get to a legendary, valuable artifact entombed within the palace. This treasure might hold the key to communicating with the living.

In the game “Crypt Custodian,” you’ll have the opportunity to enhance your equipment and abilities, socialize at a local tavern, tackle puzzles, fight formidable bosses, and carve a route through ancient dungeon ruins, experiencing “intense and swift” combat. The release date for “Crypt Custodian” is set for August 27th, and it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
