Crust Guide & Analysis
Overview
- Cute!!!
- Strongest distributed damage buff on a single slot as of this writing.
- Easily accessible dispel and still provides a serviceable dps up buff unlike most other dedicated dispel units.
- Currently a Tetra tower hero when combined with Bready, but is mediocre in other content.
- Her DoT buff is substantially weaker compared to her distributed damage buff. If you already have summer Rosanna, Crust shouldn’t be the DoT buffer for Bready.
- Manual play heavy.
Newbie/Incomplete Box Section
Crust, a charming B2 water support unit, occupies a useful role. Nevertheless, her primary objective seems to be merging with BreadY. It’s essential to fire three shots at the beginning of each battle to trigger Crust’s Maillard buff, which in turn boosts her distributed damage buff for BreadY and allows BreadY to deal distributed damage with every attack.
Beyond its user-friendly design and the fact it provides modest damage enhancements, she is useful in raids when a boss or stage carries detrimental debuffs that might jeopardize your team’s performance.
As a fan, I’d like to point out that while there are other B2 units offering broader buffs, Crust shines particularly well when it comes to DPS characters heavily dependent on skills dealing distributed damage. In most cases, we find this unit is ideal for Bready and similar characters.
Due to the fact that the boost Crust gives to DoT (Damage Over Time) is quite minimal, particularly when compared to the distributed damage buff she offers, it’s generally advisable not to use Crust to enhance units with DoT abilities. However, it should be noted that Crust can provide a beneficial DoT buff to Bready, allowing her to dish out good DoT DPS against bosses in particular situations. Yet, if more effective DoT buffers appear in the future, they are likely to surpass Crust in this regard.

Skill 1: Grill and Boil
1. This ability triggers when attacking with a Full Charge while the character is in the Maillard or Blanching status, affecting all allies. The duration of Maillard increases by 2.5 seconds, while the duration of Blanching increases by the same amount.
2. If you attack without using Full Charge after landing 3 normal attacks, this ability triggers and affects all allies. The Maillard status is granted for 10 seconds, increasing the attack power by 10% of the caster’s current attack power. It removes the Blanching status.
3. When you use Full Charge for more than 1 second after landing 3 Full Charge attacks consecutively, this ability triggers and affects all allies. The Blanching status is granted for 10 seconds, increasing the attack power by 10% of the caster’s current attack power. It removes the Maillard status.
Despite the relatively low power of her attack boost, it’s her crucial ability as it triggers the rest of her combat capabilities. Essentially, you have two options at the beginning of a battle: either rapidly fire off three attacks to trigger Maillard, or hold onto three attacks for more than one second (the standard maximum charge time) to activate Blanching. These buffs cannot be combined and do not enhance each other.
Once both conditions are fulfilled, Crust can automatically continue its operation. Repeated normal charge assaults will prolong the active period of the selected buff. Since Crust recharges rockets quicker than 2.5 seconds, this ensures that the chosen buff becomes perpetual.
Skill 2: Reliable Cooking
1. The ability triggers after delivering 3 regular attacks without a full charge, benefiting allies who are not under the Reliable Cooking status. Reliable Cooking grants a 10% boost to the attacker’s DEF for 10 seconds and dispels one debuff.
2. This skill becomes active following the execution of 3 Full Charge attacks lasting over 1 second, also benefiting allies who are not under the Reliable Cooking status. Reliable Cooking offers a 10% increase to the attacker’s DEF for 10 seconds and removes one debuff.
3. The ability is initiated when entering Full Burst, affecting all targets in either Maillard or Blanching status. It increases the attack power by 20% of the caster’s ATK for 10 seconds.
Her unique ability shines against specific bosses and content, particularly when it comes to dispelling and providing a modest defensive boost for her allies. When the same condition is met (either spamming three attacks or holding them for over a second each), she will grant a partial defense buff to all team members and completely remove one debuff from them, including stuns.
Because the dispel activation requirement is generally straightforward and usable at any moment, it gives Crust the ability to remove bothersome debuffs when regular healing and shielding prove insufficient.
It’s worth mentioning that since Reliable Cooking can’t be used again immediately, it essentially sets a 10-second wait period for the dispelling ability to recharge.
Beyond that, I find myself appreciating the fact that Crust provides a minor cooldown reduction for casting abilities upon initiating a full burst. This perk becomes active during any burst phase, making it quite beneficial, even if it’s a small bonus. It’s still a delightful addition to my gaming experience.
Burst: True Flavor
20-second Cooldown: Boosts all allies.\
– Increases Attack Damage by 20% for 10 seconds when activated, affecting all allies if they are in the Maillard status.
– Enhances Distributed Damage by 60% for 10 seconds when activated, benefiting all allies if they are in the Blanching status.
– Amplifies Sustained Damage by 10% for 10 seconds when activated, helping all allies irrespective of their status.
From a gamer’s perspective, Crust offers an acceptable attack damage boost, but what truly sets her apart is the choice between two distinct buff options: either a hefty Distributed Damage Buff or a milder Debuff over Time (DoT). The decision you make at the start determines which effect she grants. Generally, for most gameplay scenarios, opting for the Distributed Damage buff is advisable, particularly when teaming up with characters like Bready or SBS.
Campaign
In most cases, it’s not necessary to include Crust in your regular campaign team unless you are using Breadie as your main character and are missing Maid Master or Maid Anchor. There are already many B2 buffers available that provide broader buffs compared to Crust, and only a few units truly benefit from her large distributed damage buff, with Breadie being one of them.
As a fan, I’ve found myself in tricky situations where Sentry stuns pile up or debuffs make me an easy target for enemies. In these challenging stages, Crust’s cleanse is a lifesaver, making things less troublesome. Since it can be used off-burst, it’s versatile and can be a valuable addition to teams when the situation calls for it. Absolutely, give this option some thought!
Arena
In the Arena setting, it’s not beneficial to employ the Crust character. Her rocket abilities are nothing extraordinary, and since the Arena only supports auto-play, a significant portion of her overall abilities won’t be activated.
Special Interception | Union Raid | Solo Raid
It’s recommended to use crust infrequently for raids and boss fights as many bosses don’t usually have debuffs that require special attention. Damage over Time (DoT) effects can often be managed effectively through strong healing abilities, which are quite common among healers these days. Furthermore, numerous healers offer superior buffs compared to crust.
In simpler terms, Crust’s ability should primarily be utilized in Raids where the bosses inflict challenging debuffs, such as those that can instantly kill a character after receiving eight damaging effects (like Chatterbox), or those that frequently apply stuns and hinder major damage dealers from performing effectively. In other situations, like enabling Bready for specific teams during water-weak Raids, Crust may not be necessary.
Teams
Among the top-tier Tetra tower scaling groups currently, Crust’s team stands out. With Crust, Bready’s dispersed harm can trigger, and given that Crust’s distributed damage debuff is substantial, it’s advisable to activate Crust when it’s Bready’s turn to unleash a burst. Blanc will synchronously burst with Alice to impose the Damage Taken debuff on her. Since both effects are handled similarly in the damage equation, it’s always advantageous for Bready to be under Crust’s buff, even at level 4 burst skill.
In crowded Tetra tower levels, this team configuration proves particularly useful due to Bready’s automatic distributed damage attack that ensures consistent wave elimination.
It’s worth mentioning that Tetra Tower is currently performing well in terms of single-target damage per second (DPS), so you might not need the DoT (Damage over Time) version of Crust for Bready, unless you find yourself short on alternatives.
Strengths
- Works fine with little investment
- Dispel is easily accessible any time in combat.

Weaknesses
- All buffs outside of distributed damage buff are mediocre compared to the competition
- Due to the above point, she shouldn’t be a dedicated buffer to anyone outside of Bready
- Very niche.
