It doesn’t seem like there’s much hope for Chris Robinson and Sam Stanton’s struggling marriage on Married At First Sight.
Okay, so they were the power couple, seriously! Everyone thought they’d make it. But apparently, they had a huge fight last week about what happens after the show, and now… well, it’s looking really bad. I’m completely devastated, honestly. It just feels like such a setback for them, and I’m really worried about where things are headed.
The fracas culminated with Chris opting to leave during Sunday’s dramatic commitment ceremony.
Although the couple has a week to attempt to reconcile, previously unreleased video suggests their relationship might be beyond repair.
The newest episode of the MAFS spin-off, ‘After The Dinner Party,’ showed Sam a clip of Chris harshly criticizing him, while Gia Fleur appeared to enjoy it.
Chris started yelling, using strong language, and announced that the relationship was over.
‘You know, Sam, you just lost the best thing that ever f***ing happened to you,’ Chris said.
I persevered through this experiment for over five weeks, tolerated difficult behavior, and repeatedly apologized – five times, in fact – for things I didn’t believe I’d done wrong.
I apologize, but I’m able to offer a certain lifestyle because I own a farm and a property in Sydney. I’m really sorry.
Chris criticized his husband on the show for being cheap, saying he wouldn’t even pay for meals and wasn’t financially independent outside of the experiment.
He explained that they shared a place with three other people, and he ended up paying for all of their dinners, stating, ‘I paid for every single dinner.’
Okay, so things were already tense with Chris letting loose, and honestly, Gia was loving it. She couldn’t help but smile throughout the whole thing, and as soon as Chris finished, she jumped right in to get a little dig in at Sam herself. It was a classic case of someone taking advantage of a heated moment, and it definitely didn’t help the situation, let me tell you!
‘I’m sorry, if you’re successful, why are you living in shared accommodation with multiple people?’
Chris was not done, either, continuing to mock Sam over his use of coupons.
‘He was all about coupons, too. I said it,’ Chris added as Gia laughed.
He had all his coupons completely prepared and was eager to use them. When it came time to pay for dinner, he hesitated with his card, so I ended up paying the bill.
After watching the footage, a clearly upset Sam slammed Chris’ claims as ‘bulls***t’.
‘The way it worked is I would buy all the food for the house and we would go out for dinner once a week and he would pay for that,’ he said.
I live with my best friend, but it’s not a typical shared living situation. I don’t feel the need to explain or justify how we live.
Sam explained he trusted Chris completely and felt particularly upset, considering how close they had been before the recent issues arose.
He explained that the most painful part of the situation was that things were going so well – they had just begun to become close and intimate.
‘Right now I just don’t think Chris understands how things hurt me or how they make me feel at all.
‘After seeing that, I just feel like we’re not on the same page at all.’
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Sam shared that rewatching the show has been difficult and upsetting. However, one particular scene he hadn’t seen before was especially shocking.
‘Watching everything back… it really takes me back to how I felt in that moment,’ he said.
‘But the biggest thing sitting with me now is the unseen footage… I’m pretty f***ing hurt by it.’
Sam was shocked and upset to learn what Chris supposedly said about him privately. Sam claims Chris made false statements about his money and where he lives.
‘Not only was it nasty – it’s not even true,’ he said.
You know, looking back on that challenge, it’s funny – I completely skipped using coupons! I actually ended up spending more money than my partner did throughout the whole thing. It just goes to show, sometimes the things we think will save us money don’t always work out that way!
‘I lived with my best friend – not in a share house, dorm room situation like he made it out.’
He added that even if those claims were true, they should never have been weaponised.
He added that even if he did use coupons or had a larger household, it wouldn’t justify being rude to anyone.
‘That just makes it worse.’
