Cross season 1 ending explained: Who killed Alex's wife?

As a seasoned crime drama enthusiast who’s seen more than my fair share of police procedurals, let me tell you, Cross truly delivered! The first season was a rollercoaster ride that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As a dedicated gamer, I can tell you that the first season of Cross kept me hooked from start to finish! Each one of its eight episodes was a thrilling ride, and not a single one fell short. The narrative arcs were compelling, leaving no room for disappointment in their conclusions.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Cross season 1.

In my gaming world, during the first season’s adventure, I found myself investigating two intriguing mysteries. First, I had to unravel the tragic mystery surrounding the death of my character’s beloved wife. Second, I was on a quest to identify the elusive Fanboy Killer.

Getting to the bottom of the Fanboy Killer in Cross season 1

At the midpoint, Alex had deduced that the Fanboy Killer was Ryan Eggold’s character, Ramsey. However, he couldn’t provide solid evidence for this theory. As he drew nearer, Ramsey seemed to always stay one step ahead. Due to Ramsey, Cross lost his police badge and good standing within the community. Yet, this setback didn’t deter him from continuing his investigation.

During each episode, they uncovered the truth about the second mole in the police department – surprisingly, it was Lieutenant Massey who had been swayed by Ramsey’s bribes. Despite knowing her actions were wrong, she was determined to provide her child with the best possible start in life. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the fresh start she desired, as a murderer was still at large.

In this scenario, it appeared as though justice wasn’t served, with Ramsey taking his own life when Cross finally caught up to him. However, we know that Ramsey was always one step ahead of everyone else. Instead of dying, he cleverly staged his death to reach the hospital where Shannon was being kept. His intention was to complete his masterwork.

In the end, things didn’t turn out as expected. Cross managed to arrive at the hospital in the nick of time, preventing Ramsey from administering potassium chloride to Shannon.

In the trial, it turned out that Cross successfully portrayed Ramsey as utterly insane. Although Ramsey was set to stand trial for the murder of Mayor Goodwin and the kidnapping of Shannon, he wouldn’t be charged with the other murders. Regardless of Ramsey’s willingness to admit his guilt, Cross orchestrated the burning of Ramsey’s Bible, effectively eliminating all incriminating evidence. This left Ramsey appearing as a delusional individual yearning for attention rather than a convicted murderer.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but reflect on Ramsey’s ambition. He yearned for immortality, and through the moniker of Fanboy Killer, he would have certainly achieved it. Eggold delivered an exceptional performance, embodying the enraged, attention-seeking man. Alas, all his tireless efforts seemed futile in the end.

Incidentally, some families of the victims will receive answers. Bobby has consented to take responsibility for certain cases and disclose the locations of at least six victim’s remains in exchange for immunity, serving a sentence of 24 months. However, Kayla had another request. She wanted the information that Ramsey had gathered on individuals, and she was willing to compensate him for this once he is released from prison.

Alex Cross got answers he didn’t expect about his wife

During the first season of “Cross“, Alex faced numerous threats due to unknown sources. The safety of his children was at stake, and there were secrets surrounding the murder of his spouse. Consequently, it’s understandable that he delved into various investigations to uncover the truth.

It took until the final episode for all the pieces to come together. Initially, it appeared that Deirdre’s boyfriend, Pete, was central to everything. However, though Pete harbored a grudge against Alex due to Deirdre’s suicide, he wasn’t the one orchestrating it all.

As it turned out, it was Miss Nancy who had masterminded everything. Her intention was to take Cross’s children to her cabin, keeping them away from others. In a bid to rescue his children and Elle, Alex sought assistance from Bobby, but their initial plan didn’t go as intended. However, it did lead to some answers eventually.

Essentially, Nancy found herself in a difficult situation where she had to prioritize her love for two individuals, Alex and Pete. To keep Pete out of prison, she subtly persuaded Deirdre to take the fall for crimes she hadn’t committed. This deception left Pete feeling deeply guilty, believing that Deirdre acted on his behalf. In essence, Nancy wished for Alex to experience a fraction of the emotional turmoil she was going through, as she herself struggled to choose between the two people she cared about profoundly.

A scuffle ensued, yet it fizzled out rather unexpectedly. Nancy met a tragic end by burning herself, while Pete was taken into custody. Alex, along with Nancy, Pete, and Bobby – who had further duties ahead – managed to escape unharmed.

What stood out most in this plot was the pivotal moment when Alex found the assistance he desperately required. This allowed him to bring a conclusion to that phase of his life, as he finally received the solutions he had been seeking.

As a gamer, I felt I hadn’t been treated fairly, yet Chief Anderson dropped a hint about her mayoral bid, which meant she needed me to avoid any disciplinary action regarding the suspect encounter earlier in the season. I tried to persuade him to file an official complaint, but he wasn’t interested. What he truly desired was for us, Black officers, to uphold our duties more diligently when dealing with Black suspects. That’s something I wholeheartedly support.

Given these circumstances, it’s intriguing to speculate about the direction “Cross” season 2 might take. What challenges await Alex and Sampson next, and should we have faith in Kayla’s intentions?

Cross is available to stream on Prime Video.
