Criminal Minds Skips Over Tara & Rebecca’s Wedding, Where The BAU Could’ve Reunited
The season 18 finale of Criminal Minds ended with a proposal, leading many viewers to expect Tara and Rebecca’s wedding to be a major focus in the next season. After a difficult season for the BAU team, and JJ’s personal loss, the proposal offered a hopeful moment. Fans anticipated a joyful wedding storyline. However, the start of season 19 revealed that a year had passed, and Tara and Rebecca had already gotten married, skipping the wedding event altogether.
The couple initially didn’t plan a large wedding, but completely cancelling the event also meant fans wouldn’t get a chance to see the cast of Criminal Minds reunite. If Tara and Rebecca had gotten married on screen, with wedding planning as a storyline throughout the season, it could have naturally brought back beloved characters from the show. Instead, viewers were disappointed to miss seeing this important moment altogether.
Evolution’s Lack Of Original Cast Reunions Has Been It’s Biggest Pitfall
While the new cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution has done a great job, the reboot’s biggest weakness is that it hasn’t brought back any of the original stars. We’ve enjoyed watching the current team solve tough cases, but the show constantly reminds us of the past, and it would be wonderful to see familiar faces – a way to acknowledge that Criminal Minds has been a part of popular culture for two decades. A quick update on how former BAU members are doing would be a fantastic addition.
While Matthew Gray Gubler made a guest appearance as Spencer Reid last season and hasn’t closed the door on returning to Criminal Minds, he’s not the only former cast member fans hope to see again. Bringing back guest stars, even for extended storylines involving past characters, could be a great way to keep Criminal Minds: Evolution fresh and successful for many seasons to come.
