The crime series Matlock is back with a new season in the UK. Kathy Bates stars as the lead lawyer in the show, which originally aired last year.
Inspired by a classic legal drama from the 80s and 90s, Bates stars as Madeline Kingston, a woman who returns to work to fight for justice following the tragic death of her daughter during the opioid crisis.
After premiering in the US last October, the second season is now available for UK viewers. New episodes will air weekly on Sky Witness and NOW, starting yesterday with the first episode.
What to Read Next
In Matlock, Madeline takes a job at a high-profile law firm, convinced they intentionally hid evidence that could have helped her daughter, Ellie. To get close to those responsible, she transforms herself into ‘Matty’ Matlock – a seemingly helpless, older widow who people tend to underestimate because of her gentle nature.
I learned the name comes from the classic show Matlock – it’s actually part of the game’s world because Ellie was a huge fan! It’s a really cool little detail that connects everything.

She joined the law firm, working on their cases and slowly becoming part of the team, all while secretly searching for the truth.
Matty is an exceptionally skilled lawyer with a knack for winning, and she quickly forms close relationships with her younger, often very driven, colleagues. She believes her age is an advantage, explaining that people tend to underestimate her.
The show Matlock is receiving widespread praise. Its second season has a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Pop Culture Planet describes it as both hilarious and heartfelt, highlighting its surprising plot twists that will keep viewers engaged.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review praised the first two episodes for having some surprising turns, and Culturess called the first season a perfect example of how to successfully reboot a show.
The show originally aired from 1986 to 1995 and featured Andy Griffith playing Ben Matlock, a lawyer who solved a new case every week.
You can watch season 2 of Matlock on Sky Witness and NOW in the UK, with new episodes released every Wednesday. Season 1 is also available to stream on both platforms.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find ‘Dolly at 80’ in shops or order it online for only £8.99.
